Dan Henderson As he’s done so many times during a storied career, Dan Henderson (31-13 MMA, 8-7 UFC) proved age isn’t everything when, at 44 years young, he became the oldest fighter in UFC history to earn a knockout victory when he stopped Tim Boetsch (18-9 MMA, 9-8 UFC) 28 seconds into UFC Fight Night 68’s main event. Henderson’s first-round knockout capped off Saturday’s unforgettable night of action at New Orleans’ Smoothie King Center. Ten of 12 fights ended in a stoppage, with seven of those registered in the first round. When an event with so many finishes takes place, a number of historic feats are bound to emerge. NEW ORLEANS – The powerful kicks of Omari Akhmedov were enough to cause an injury to the knee of Brian Ebersole in Round 1, forcing Ebersole to retire on the stool in their UFC Fight Night 68 bout. The welterweight bout was part of the preliminary card of today’s UFC Fight Night 68 event at Smoothie King Center in New Orleans. It aired on FOX Sports 1 following additional prelims on UFC Fight Pass and ahead of a main card on FOX Sports 1. Akhmedov (15-2 MMA, 3-1 UFC) opened the fight with a hard kick to the body, landing right to the side of Ebersole’s trademark “hairrow.” Ebersole (51-17-1 MMA, 4-3 UFC) moved back to distance and tried to use his own range-finding kicks but Akhmedov uncorked yet another heavy kick to the body

The 34-year-old veteran fighter said he’ll retire following his UFC Fight Night 68 loss to Omari Akhmedov on Saturday night. “I’m getting old, I’m getting up there,” Ebersole said. “I planned on retiring in November after the fight in Melbourne, but we’ll call it a night tonight. Now past the halfway mark of a two-month run of big shows, the WSOF heads north again to Canada, and the UFC touches down in sultry New Orleans. The event takes place Saturday at Smoothie King Center. Following two early prelims on UFC Fight Pass, the rest of the card airs on FOX Sports 1. Originally meant to feature a main event between Daniel Cormier and Ryan Bader, the organization’s first fight card in New Orleans since Sept. 2011 will see Dan Henderson (30-13 MMA, 7-7 UFC) and Tim Boetsch (18-8 MMA, 9-7 UFC) collide in a five-round middleweight headliner. Both men are in a funk of late – Henderson is 1-5 in his past six, and Boetsch is 2-4 – but will look to use the main-event platform to jolt some momentum back into their respective careers
