Brian Foster out, Jason High vs. Natan Schulte now headlines PFL 5 in New York

Brian Foster is out of Thursday’s PFL 5 main event, opening the door for Jason High . Foster (28-10) was set to take on Natan Schulte (12-3) in the headliner. Instead, High (21-7) will fight Schulte in his place in the second lightweight regular-season bout for each fighter. Schulte has three points in the regular season from a win over Chris Wade at PFL 2 in June. High lost his fight to Efrain Escudero at the same event, so has no points

The lineup is set for the Professional Fighters League’s next show, which will be its second straight in New York. PFL 5, like PFL 4 this past week, takes place at NYCB Live in Uniondale, N.Y., on Long Island. The main card airs on NBCSN following prelims on Facebook Live. The event will feature regular-season fights in the lightweight and light heavyweight divisions. In the headliner, Brian Foster (28-10) gets his second regular-season fight at lightweight when he meets Natan Schulte (12-3). Foster picked up four points in the 155-pound regular season at PFL 2.

CHICAGO – Brian Foster wasn’t so sure he was winning his fight against Ramsey Nijem in the third round Thursday night. His cornermen told him he needed to get after it. And get after it, he did. Foster (28-10) landed a jumping knee against Nijem (9-7) and dropped him to the canvas. A few follow-up shots later, and Foster had a rather remarkable 27th finish in 28 career wins. Foster’s win came in the lightweight division of the Professional Fighters League’s inaugural season in the co-main event at Chicago Theatre in Chicago.

CHICAGO – After a night of slick submissions, some brutal knockouts and a bizarre/heated/controversial finish, today’s PFL 2 event concluded with a bit of a grind-fest. In the end, after three hard-fought rounds, Will Brooks (19-4) emerged victorious via unanimous decision over fellow UFC vet Luis Firmino (20-9). The fight concluded the NBCSN-televised event at Chicago Theatre, which followed early fights on Facebook. As PFL’s “regular season” rolls on and fighters try to tally points for high seeds in the “playoffs”/tournaments, Brooks had to settle for three points – he didn’t get any bonus ones for a stoppage – for his victory, which came via 30-27 scores across the board.

CHICAGO – PFL 2 ceremonial weigh-ins took place today, and MMAjunkie was on the scene. PFL 2 takes place Thursday at Chicago Theatre, and the main card airs on NBCSN following early fights on Facebook Watch. It’s the second event of the promotions regular season, with lightweights and light heavyweights on display as they fight hoping to earn a high seed in the playoffs and take one step closer to a $1 million prize. The event – one of the best cards ever assembled by PFL (formerly WSOF) – is filled with names fight fans should be familiar with.
