With the worldwide COVID-19 epidemic in full effect, fighters and fight fans alike find themselves in the same boat as everyone else when it comes to finding their next source of entertainment and income. Sports across the globe have pretty much come to a halt, and though MMA may be a sport that can return to business faster than others, the fact still remains that our new realities currently involve factors like social distancing and self quarantines. Now, I don’t want to make light of the pandemic at hand or overly sensationalize the current climate, since I’m sure we’ll all come through this as better human beings. However, in case things get worse – hypothetically – I thought it would be a fun exercise to construct a fantasy team of seven fighters who you’d want by your side in the event of an all-out apocalypse. We’ll get to see for ourselves how Brian Stann ’s involvement with PFL translates to its final product after its debut season kicks off Thursday. But already we can say this: As an MMA promotion with an audacious concept, you can do a lot worse than counting on someone who’s not only been involved in the sport as a respected fighter and commentator, but is also excited about the package you’re offering. Judging by Stann’s conversation with MMAjunkie Radio after his formal announcement as a member of PFL’s fighter and competition/rules committee , that seems to be the case. UFC vet Brian Stann joins PFL as part of promotion’s fighter and competition/rules committee

With the debut season of the Professional Fighters League set to kick off in just a few weeks, the promotion is bringing on a standout veteran behind the scenes. Former WEC champion and UFC fighter Brian Stann will help lead PFL’s fighter and competition/rules committee, the promotion announced in a news release. Stann’s background as a color commentator for the UFC on FOX Sports broadcasts should help him in that role, as well. According to the release, Stann “will play a major leadership role on the Fighter and Competition/Rules Committee in its efforts to support fighters by developing procedures and making recommendations with respect to competition format and rules, fighter care, and athlete conduct.” PFL’s debut event takes place June 7 at Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York. Four fights air on NBCSN following eight contests that stream live on Facebook, though the night’s bout order has yet to be officially finalized.

‘The best in the game!’ Twitter reacts to Brian Stann’s UFC departure

There was a unified reaction to today’s news that Brian Stann will no longer be calling UFC fights, and that was one of disappointment. Stann revealed he’s parting ways with the UFC effective immediately and will no long be calling action from cageside. Over the past four years, he’s become one of the organization’s most prominent and beloved broadcasters, so many were taken aback by the news. Although Stann is pursuing an opportunity outside the sport which he sounds greatly excited about, the response to his announcement showed the 11-time octagon veteran will be missed.
