LFA 33 highlights: Kevin Wirth’s ‘Sweet Chin Music’ and NFL vet Greg Hardy’s 14-second win

The finishes were quick and decisive at Friday’s LFA 33, but the main-card opener might’ve been the most impressive. In the first AXS TV-televised bout at The Bomb Factory in Dallas, Kevin Wirth (5-0) blasted Isaiah Gutierrez (4-1) with a nifty third-round head kick. The blow was reminiscent of former WWE star Shawn Michaels’ “Sweet Chin Music” finisher and clearly impressed commentator Pat Miletich, who was on the call. While the rest of the LFA 33 highlights are available above, here’s Wirth’s crafty kick (via YouTube ): In the night’s headliner, undefeated welterweight Kyle Stewart (9-0) scored a unanimous-decision win over a very game Jaleel Willis (8-1), and in the co-headliner, former UFC fighter Damon Jackson (14-2-1) continued his recent surge with a technical submission victory over Chris Pecero (14-8). Also on the card, we saw three consecutive rear-naked-choke wins

Former NFLer Greg Hardy set for amateur MMA bout at ‘LFA 33: Willis vs. Stewart’

Two undefeated welterweights have taken top billing on next month’s LFA 33 lineup, which also features NFC vet Greg Hardy ’s third MMA bout. Officials today announced former U.S. Marine Kyle Stewart (9-0) and Memphis native Jaleel Willis (8-0) will meet in the main event. LFA takes place Feb. 16 at The Bomb Factory in Dallas, and the main card airs on AXS TV.

The show took place at Arena Theatre in the home city of the World Series champion Houston Astros, and the main card aired on AXS TV. In the main event, Jeff Hughes (8-1) dethroned heavyweight champion Richard Odoms (13-4) with a unanimous decision via 49-46, 49-46 and 48-47 scores.

Legacy FC 55 video highlights: Main event halted when eyeball accidentally sliced

During the AXS TV-televised headliner, which took place at Arena Theatre in Houston, heavyweight Brice Ritani-Coe (4-3) couldn’t continue after opponent Justin Ledet (6-0) accidentally caught him with a thumb to the eye . Related: Legacy FC 55 results: Early eye poke ends Justin Ledet vs. Brice Ritani-Coe According to broadcaster Michael Schiavello, the poke actually cut open the eye of Ritani-Coe, who was immediately taken to the hospital.

Legacy FC 55 results: Early eye poke ends Justin Ledet vs. Brice Ritani-Coe

Fans were expecting a heavyweight slugfest between Justin Ledet and Brice Ritani-Coe in the main event of Legacy FC 55. Instead, the fight ended in unsatisfying fashion after Ritani-Coe was unable to continue due to an eye poke early in Round 1. The event took place at Arena Theatre in Houston. The main card aired on AXS TV following untelevised prelims. The two big men looked happy to trade on the feet early in the fight, but a Ledet (6-0) jab slid off the side of the face of Ritani-Coe (4-3). As his hand continued past Ritani-Coe’s face, Ledet’s thumb dug into the eye.

East (10-1) retained his heavyweight title with a second-round TKO in the main event of Friday’s Legacy FC 40 event – but he had to survive a first-round scare from the challenger, who took the fight on less than two weeks’ notice – and just three weeks after fighting at Legacy FC 39, which was his first bout in nearly four years. The main card also featured a beautiful knockout by Doug Usher (4-2) against Aaron Conway (4-5) in the main card’s opening bout, plus some brilliant jiu-jitsu from Rodrigo Lima (12-3) against Matt Betzold (6-5). In Friday’s Legacy FC 39 main event at Houston’s Arena Theater, Leite (6-0) scored a second-round TKO victory over Larry Crowe (9-4). However, just prior to the fight-ending ground-and-pound finish, Leite appeared to catch Crowe with an illegal knee to the groin.
