MMAjunkie.com is proud to announce that Mike Bohn has joined our reporting team. Bohn begins his new position on Aug. 1. His contributions will appear online at MMAjunkie.com and usatoday.com , and he’ll also occasionally contribute to the print edition of USA TODAY. His work will focus primarily on event-related features and a slate of new video initiatives. Bohn, a 22-year-old journalism and broadcasting student who’s based in Toronto, also will help with on-site event coverage in his native Canada. “Mike is a young go-getter who carved out a nice niche for himself in our industry, and we’re excited about making him an addition to our team,” USA TODAY senior MMA editor/MMAjunkie.com editor-in-chief Dann Stupp said.

It’s fight week once again, which means this edition of the Twitter Mailbag gets right to work with questions about the upcoming UFC on FOX 8 card in Seattle. After that, well, that’s when we get into the fun stuff like light heavyweights who really want to be middleweights and heavyweights who want to be light heavyweights. Don’t worry, we’ll also find some time to talk discretionary bonuses, zombies of Korean origin, and broadcasting dream teams. UFC middleweight Brian Stann retires from MMA to focus on broadcasting, family

UFC middleweight Brian Stann , a former WEC light heavyweight champion, has announced his retirement from the sport. Stann (12-6 MMA, 6-5 UFC) exits the sport after a “Fight of the Night” loss to Wanderlei Silva in March in what will be his final fight. Stann confirmed his retirement to MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com); he made his official announcement on ” The MMA Hour .” Stann will now focus his career on broadcasting and his family. On Wednesday, FOX Sports announced the Atlanta-area resident is part of the new Atlantic Coast Conference football crew for FOX Sports South. Since the UFC’s broadcast deal with FOX began in 2012, Stann has been active as an analyst for both FOX and FUEL TV’s pre- and post-fight UFC event coverage. “Yesterday, news broke that I’m going to be branching out and doing some college football,” Stann said on the show. “But a couple months ago, I had made the decision and just wasn’t sure when I would announce it, that I was no longer going to continue fighting

Showtime might be interested in getting back in the MMA business, and if it is it may already have picked a top draft pick to partner with. Showtime Sports Executive Vice President and General Manager earlier this week, according to a report from FOX Sports Latino , said the premium cable network would consider a return to broadcasting MMA – and likes Invicta Fighting Championships as a possible promotion to team up with. Showtime most recently broadcast MMA in January with Strikeforce’s final card, which took place in Oklahoma City.
