Mike Davis saw his life path and career change years ago in a form that had been normal throughout his life: a physical attack from his brother. Davis had traveled to attend his sister’s wedding, which was far enough away that he hadn’t seen his younger brother in a long while. They had spent their youth as close confidants, but also as near-daily combatants, mimicking professional wrestling moves and even using socks as boxing gloves in the backyard. Resurrection Fighting Alliance officials on Friday announced that Keoni Koch is out of the RFA 9 main event title fight with an injury. Jeff Curran has already agreed to step in and take his place against Pedro Munhoz. Keoni, the older brother of UFC fighter Erik Koch, re-injured his hand, according to RFA officials. Curran now steps into the RFA 9 main event to battle Munhoz for the vacant RFA bantamweight championship.

Pedro Munhoz, Keoni Koch meet for bantamweight title in RFA 9 main event

Resurrection Fighting Alliance returns next month for its first show in California, featuring a delayed bantamweight title fight. “RFA 9: Munhoz vs. Koch” is set for Aug. 16 at StubHub Center in Los Angeles. Promotion officials recently announced the fight card, which will have a six-fight main card that airs live on AXS TV. In the main event, the vacant bantamweight title will be on the line as Pedro Munhoz (8-0) meets Keoni Koch (5-0), the older brother of UFC featherweight standout Erik Koch . “I am so excited to bring the RFA to Los Angeles and to give fans in my hometown this championship title fight between undefeated Pedro Munhoz and undefeated Keoni Koch,” RFA President Ed Soares stated. “This fight not only gives the winner the RFA world bantamweight title, he also gets to prove on live national television that he’s one of the toughest rising stars in the division.” Munhoz was supposed to fight Koch at RFA 8, but Koch was forced out with an injury.

Friend of Bellator’s Maiquel Falcao remains in hospital following brutal beating

Undefeated MMA fighter Kaue Mena (7-0) remains in a Brazilian hospital after an altercation that involved Bellator fighter Maiquel Falcao (31-6 MMA, 3-1 BFC) turned violent. Falcao’s wife, Danielle, wrote on Facebook that Mena’s condition is improving after surgery, though “his condition remains very grave.” She asked friends and loved ones for their prayers. “Great news,” she wrote in her native Portuguese. “Our brother Kaue has shown improvements. We are following his recovery. Glory be to God. We will continue praying in earnest.” Falcao and Mena were at a gas station this past Saturday when Falcao apparently got into an argument with a pair of women, one of whom he pushed away, according to a news report from a Brazilian TV station Band Santa Catarina. A group of men then came into the store and began fighting with the two, and the violence spilled outside

Dillard Pegg was a game opponent early on Friday. But it didn’t take long for Sergio Pettis to turn up the heat. Pegg (5-2) worked a combination of kicks and well-intended strikes early against Pettis (8-0), the younger brother of UFC standout Anthony Pettis . Pegg took the main-event fight at Resurrection Fighting Alliance 8 on just 10 days’ notice when Jeff Curran pulled out. But after Pettis ducked and dodged his way around, he slipped past a Pegg left and landed a right hand to the jaw that dropped the Ohioan to the canvas. Pettis pounced quickly and just a few shots on the ground later, he had a 51-second win and RFA’s first flyweight title. The fight took place at The Rave/Eagles Club in Milwaukee, Wisc. The night’s main card aired on AXS TV
