With plenty of buzz about MMA fighters such as Anderson Silva and Quinton Jackson crossing over to box against Roy Jones Jr., there’s another crossover that will happen first. Former Strikeforce women’s featherweight champion and current Invicta Fighting Championships titleholder Cristiane Justino will venture into the world of muay Thai. “Cyborg” has signed on to face renowned kickboxing champion Martina Jindrova at Lion Fight 11 on Sept. 20 in a fight that will air on AXS TV.

LAS VEGAS – Anderson Silva hasn’t been shy about saying he’s interested in a fight against boxer Roy Jones Jr. And the buzz around that potential may reach a fever pitch this weekend. UFC President Dana White on Thursday told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) Jones will be the UFC’s guest on Saturday at UFC 162 in Las Vegas – and that the two are “talking.” White didn’t elaborate on just what “talking” entails. Could that mean an MMA bout between Silva and Jones? Or, perhaps less likely, a special boxing match between the two? The specifics are up in the air. But that White admitted he’s talking to the boxer is a step in the right direction. White in 2009 said no to the possibility of the matchup happening when Jones first brought it to the table.

You might not have known this, but Bobby Lashley is fighting this weekend. He fought earlier this month, too, though you could be forgiven for not knowing that, either. That’s because, especially for a guy who started off with all the buzz that comes from the pro wrestling-to-MMA transition, the heat of the spotlight has cooled considerably for Lashley in MMA. The man who once looked like he might become the next Brock Lesnar is now fighting on small shows like Saturday night’s Global Warrior Challenge event in Kansas City, Mo., where he’s not even the pay-per-view event’s headliner. What’s more, he’s small-timing it on purpose. At least he says he is, and he says he has a good reason, even if other people don’t understand it. “Before when I was fighting, I just felt like I had to go out there and win,” Lashley told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). “That was my only focus.

Can Chris Weidman do what no one else in the UFC has been able to do – dethrone Anderson Silva ? The buzz seems to be that Weidman (9-0 MMA, 5-0 UFC) has a better shot than just about anyone before him of knocking off Silva (33-4 MMA, 16-0 UFC), who long has been considered the world’s best pound-for-pound fighter. Now hear what the fighters themselves think about that possibility. Silva defends his middleweight title against Weidman in the main event of UFC 162, which takes place July 6 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Silva will be going after an extension of his record, looking for his 11th straight title defense and 17th straight UFC victory. Weidman has earned his shot by being unbeaten in the UFC, himself. Silva opened as slightly more than a 2-to-1 favorite (-215) against Weidman. But not since he fought Dan Henderson at UFC 82 has Silva been favorite by this little – currently between -240 and -280 – against an opponent.
