Cage Warriors 106 provided some unusual moments Saturday. While somewhat overshadowed by the oddities of a blood-soaked main event , the middleweight title fight between champion James Webb and challenger Nathias Frederick had its fair share of rarities. After a warning following a similar sequence earlier in the fight, Frederick (7-2-1 MMA) was deducted a point for a pro wrestling-style piledriver delivered to a vulnerable Webb (6-1-1 MMA).

LONDON – French flyweight Samir Faiddine scored the biggest shock of the night with a stunning TKO finish of Sam Creasey at “Cage Warriors 106: Night of Champions,” and nobody was as surprised at how the fight ended than Faiddine, himself. The 26-year-old hails from the same MMA Factory gym in Paris that produced Francis Ngannou, and Faiddine delivered a moment of heavy-handed punch power his much taller former teammate would have been proud of, dropping big pre-fight favorite Creasey (11-3) with a huge right hand before finishing his man with ground strikes for an impressive TKO victory. It saw Faiddine (11-5) claim the vacant Cage Warriors flyweight world title but, chatting to MMA Junkie backstage, he admitted he never thought he would win in such emphatic fashion. “It’s amazing because I’m surprised,” Faiddine admitted. “I thought it would go five rounds then, in the third round, there was an opportunity to make the punch and boom! I saw that, and (thought), ‘Whoa! Here we go!’ “I was prepared for five rounds, not for the knockout. So to see that, I am so surprised.” Faiddine has competed at bantamweight and flyweight during his 16-fight MMA career and says his job now is to fully establish himself as the man to beat at 125 pounds and not look any further ahead than his next bout

New Cage Warriors lightweight champion Jai Herbert: ‘I’m UFC-ready now’

LONDON – One of the big winners at “Cage Warriors 106: Night of Champions” was undoubtedly Jai Herbert , whose spectacular striking performance against fellow challenger Jack Grant saw him claim a third-round TKO finish and the Cage Warriors lightweight title. Herbert’s (9-1) impressive display to defeat Grant (15-5) was the latest in a red-hot run of form that has seen the 31-year-old reel off five consecutive wins, with four of them coming via knockout. His latest stoppage victory certainly caught the eye at the Eventim Apollo on Saturday night, but Herbert says there is much more still to come. “I’d rate that about a seven (out of 10),” he told MMA Junkie backstage after his victory. “I did well in there, but I should have used my jab a bit more. I got a bit too right-hand happy.

LONDON – When MMA Junkie chatted with Cage Warriors president Graham Boylan backstage in the lead-up to “Cage Warriors 106: Night of Champions” in London, the Irishman was optimistic of a history-making night. But even he wouldn’t have expected the night to pan out in quite the way it did. The stacked fight card delivered the goods, with the six world title fights at the top of the card producing storylines that will live on far beyond Saturday night’s event at the Eventim Apollo. But while there were title shocks, come-from-behind victories and some eye-catching finishes, an action-packed night ended in bizarre fashion with experienced referee Marc Goddard calling an early end to the welterweight title unification fight between defending champion Ross Houston and interim champ Nicolas Dalby . Cage Warriors 106 was dubbed “Night of Champions,” but it perhaps may have been more aptly-titled “Night of Drama,” as the U.K.-based MMA promotion served up a quite remarkable night of action that produced some spectacular – and unusual – results at Eventim Apollo in London. None were more unique than what we saw in the main event, when defending welterweight champion Ross Houston and interim champ Nicolas Dalby went toe-to-toe in a bloody war that ended up being ruled a no contest by referee Marc Goddard. The opening round saw Houston (8-0) connect with a slicing elbow that left Dalby (17-3-1) with a nasty gash above his left temple. But after some sterling work in the corner between rounds from the cutman, the gushing blood was stemmed, and the cut was suitably closed for the doctor to rule “Lokomotivo” fit to continue. In the second round, a huge right cross from the Dane left Houston with a broken nose that started to bleed profusely, as well. It led to remarkable scenes as the canvas of the cage was turned blood red, with both fighters struggling to get a foothold on an increasingly slippery surface. With both men bleeding heavily and the action becoming increasingly farcical as the third round unfolded, Goddard called a stop to the action and waved off the fight as a no contest
