UFC on Fox 8 Results: Robbie Lawler’s Octagon Return Continues with Another Stunning Knockout

Heading into his UFC on Fox 8 welterweight bout with Bobby Voelker, UFC veteran and perennial fan favorite Robbie Lawler had 20 career victories. Of those 20 victories, 17 came by way of knockout. After Saturday night, you can make that 21, as Lawler dispatched Voelker, leveling the Kansas City native with a thudding head-kick knockout at the start of the second round. Round one saw both fighters open with a purpose. Lawler stalked his opponent with a cocked right hand, as the 34-year-old Voelker looked to earn his first victory inside the Octagon after failing in his debut against Patrick Cote at UFC 158. As Lawler pressured with a stiff jab, Voelker attempted to stymie the oncoming pressure of the former Miletich Fighting System product by using an array of leg kicks and lateral movement.

Brazilian phenom Goiti Yamauchi debuts at Bellator 99

Brazilian phenom Goiti Yamauchi , a 20-year-old who already boasts a 14-1 pro MMA record, will make his Bellator debut on Sept. 13 at Bellator 99. Yamauchi (14-1 MMA, 0-0 BFC) told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) he’s scheduled to fight fellow featherweight Musa Toliver (9-8-1 MMA, 0-0 BFC) at the event, which takes place at Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, Calif. Yamauchi vs. Toliver will be part of the Spike.com-streamed prelims, which precede the night’s Spike TV-televised main card. Yamauchi, who’s riding a nine-fight winning streak with 12 submissions in 14 career victories, was born in Japan to Brazilian parents but moved to the South American country when he was just 3 years old. Davis, Alessio, Clementi among 155 tourney field at Bellator 101 in Portland

Bellator will open its Season 9 lightweight tournament in September with a field of eight fighters who have combined for 172 career victories – and one who will come out of retirement. Bellator 101 will take place Sept. 27 at Rose Garden Arena in Portland, the promotion on Wednesday announced. Tickets for the event go on sale Friday, and as usual the main card will air live on Spike TV following Spike.com-streamed prelims. As with all of Bellator’s tournaments, the winner gets $100,000 in total tournament prize money and a shot at the Bellator title, which currently is held by Michael Chandler . World Series of Fighting Reveals Aug. 10 Fight Card

World Series of Fighting announced their Aug. 10 fight card on Thursday that takes place at Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, Calif. Slated for the live, five-fight NBC Sports Network telecast of the World Series of Fighting event is a light heavyweight showdown between world kickboxing champion turned unbeaten MMA upstart Tyrone “King of the Ring” Spong (1-0) and fellow hard-hitting KO artist Angel “The Dream” DeAnda (11-2). The 27-year-old Spong is a veteran of 77 professional kickboxing bouts while DeAnda has scored (T)KOs in 10 of his 11 career MMA victories, including his last four. Marlon Moraes (10-4) will battle fellow streaking bantamweight Brandon “Hot Rod” Hempleman (9-1). The 25-year-old Moraes is coming off his fourth consecutive victory – a stunning first round knockout of rival star Tyson Nam by way of head kick at the World Series of Fighting event on March 23. Hempleman is a riding a six-fight winning streak. In other main card action, World Series of Fighting President and six-time world kickboxing champion Ray Sefo (2-1) will shed his business attire and put on his fighting trunks and combat gloves to face heavy-handed knockout artist Dave Huckaba (20-5). Sefo, also a two-time Hall of Famer, has faced and defeated nearly every major rival of his era in the kickboxing ring, while Huckaba, a dangerous and seasoned power puncher, has earned 16 of his 20 career victories by way of (T)KO
