LAS VEGAS – The newest season of “The Ultimate Fighter” is poised to help the UFC finally build a women’s featherweight roster, and current champion Cris Cyborg was on hand for the open tryouts to personally welcome the crop of hopefuls. A total of 28 women’s featherweights were on hand at Tuesday’s “The Ultimate Fighter 28” open tryouts at Las Vegas’ Palace Station Hotel & Casino, with each fighter hoping to land a spot on the show and, ultimately, a UFC contract. Additionally, 53 male heavyweight hopefuls were on hand for that division’s proceedings, as well

Titan FC 41 results: Kalindra Faria closes Carina Damm trilogy, wins inaugural women’s title

Nearly seven years after their rivalry began, the trilogy between Kalindra Faria and Carina Damm came to a decisive conclusion in Friday’s Titan FC 41 headliner. The organization’s inaugural women’s bantamweight championship was on the line in the headliner, which streamed on UFC Fight Pass from Bank United Center in Coral Gables, Fla., and after five rounds it was Faria (18-5) who captured the gold with a dominant unanimous-decision win and a performance that put her up 2-1 in head-to-head competition against Damm (23-13). The pair first met in September 2009 with Damm overwhelming Faria with strikes for a second-round TKO victory. In July 2013 they collided again, and it ended quickly when Faria locked up a submission finish in a little more than two minutes. There was real tension between Faria and Damm after two fights, and in their third meeting, they went the entire 25 minutes

She’s faced noteworthy opponents – Jessica Aguilar, Cat Zingano, Tara LaRosa, Tonya Evinger, Jessica Eye and Rosi Sexton, among others – on relevant fight cards, but she hasn’t competed in such a high-stakes affair in quite some time. A pair of titles will be on the line when Titan FC returns to South Florida next month. In the Titan FC 41 main event, Carina Damm (23-12) will meet Kalindra Faria (17-5-1) for the promotion’s inaugural women’s bantamweight title. That fight is a trilogy bout – the pair is 1-1 against each other. And in the co-feature, Farkhad Sharipov (16-6) takes on Andrew Whitney (14-4) in the final of a bantamweight tournament to determine Titan’s 135-pound men’s champ.

Gesias Cavalcante told MMAjunkie he didn’t believe, he knew he would become Titan FC lightweight champion. It took just over two minutes for him to make it happen. Cavalcante (20-8-1) faced off with Pat Healy (33-22) for the vacant belt and finished the fight with a cracking right hand and perfunctory follow-up shots on the ground at the 2:07 mark of Round 1. The event took place at BankUnited Center in Coral Gables, Fla. The entire event streamed on UFC Fight Pass. Then there were “communication issues between Gadelha’s camp and the promotion,” and Damm lost an opportunity to fight the current UFC strawweight title contender.
