CES MMA 38 took place at Twin River Casino in Lincoln, R.I. The main card aired on AXS TV. In the headliner, featherweight Levan Makashvili (9-2-1) tapped Sean Soriano (9-5) at the 4:05 mark of the second round with a rear-naked choke, giving him a pair of wins for CES MMA since his release from the UFC.

In an era when fighters sometimes appear in the UFC octagon for their first or second professional fights, Rico DiSciullo has a refreshing perspective on not only what it takes to get on the UFC roster, but also keep a longstanding position there. DiSciullo (6-0), who looks to extend his undefeated record when he takes on David Garcia (3-1-1) tonight at the AXS TV-televised CES MMA 38 event from Twin River Casino in Lincoln, R.I., said he’s not eager to jump to the highest level of the sport when his experience doesn’t match the overwhelming majority of those he would compete against. Sure, the likes of CM Punk and Mickey Gall stand out as inexperienced fighters in the UFC due to their lack of bouts, but there are numerous athletes signed to the promotion who have five or more fights but have only been competing for 12-24 months. DiSciullo, meanwhile, has been a pro since September 2013. Before that he had an amateur career that lasted two years and consisted of nine fights. DiSciullo has 16 bouts to his name, including his amateur fights, but said that’s still not enough.

The card for CES MMA’s return to Connecticut continues to come together with the addition of a bantamweight bout between Rico DiSciullo and David Garcia. The CES MMA 38 bout was announced today via press release from the promotion. CES MMA 38 will take place Sept. 23 at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Conn. The main card will air live on AXS TV. A bout order has not yet been set for the event

CES MMA will return to Connecticut next month, and its next card will include a pair of UFC veterans squaring off at featherweight. Levan Makashvili (11-2-1) will take on Sean Soriano (9-4) at CES MMA 38, promotion officials today announced. In addition, a featherweight bout between Calvin Kattar (15-2) and Chris Foster (9-4) was announced, as was a flyweight fight featuring Carlos Candelario (4-0) vs. Brandon Warne (1-1)
