The field is set for Bellator’s Season 9 featherweight tournament, and it will feature two recent title challengers and a UFC veteran. Bellator 99 returns to Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, Calif., on Sept. 13. The card will be headlined by a light heavyweight bout between the recently signed Vladimir Matyushenko (26-7 MMA, 0-0 BFC) and former champion Christian M’Pumbu (18-5-1 MMA, 3-2 BFC), and the featherweight tournament’s opening round starts the same night. Headlining title challengers Marloes Coenen (21-5) and Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos (11-1) are now official for Saturday Invicta FC 6 event. Coenen, Santos and the rest of the card hit the scales at today’s official weigh-in ceremony, which took place at Ameristar Casino Hotel in Kansas City, Mo. The same venue hosts Saturday’s pay-per-view event. Coenen and Santos, who meet in a rematch of their 2010 Strikeforce matchup, compete for the inaugural Invicta FC featherweight title. They lead a 10-fight main card that airs on pay-per-view. An additional three fights stream free prior to the featured bouts.

Winning King of the Cage Belt is Latest Step Along Frankie Saenz’s Road to the Top

In winning the King of the Cage flyweight championship (135-pound limit) on May 25, former Strikeforce Challengers participant Frankie Saenz has begun taking the necessary steps to make an impact in the 135-pound division. “I thought it was a pretty good match-up for myself,” said Saenz of his title fight against Marvin Garcia. “He and I are both wrestlers, so we just kind of planned to out-wrestle him. We knew he had a few overhand punches and stuff like that, so I just tried to be patient, calm and kept my hands up. “The game plan was just wear him down that first round by make him keep grappling and fighting for position, and then in the second round things would start opening for me.” Saenz feels the win over Garcia is a good indicator of where he’s at in his career. “It was definitely a good win,” said Saenz. “(Garcia’s) got a good record and any win like that is a good win
