Charlie Brenneman After a second try in the UFC as a lightweight, Charlie Brenneman (19-8 MMA, 4-7 UFC) is again going back to the drawing board. The 33-year-old MMA vet today announced via Twitter that he’s been released from the promotion, adding, “Looking forward to starting the next chapter. Thx to my supporters!” Was released fr @ufc today. Looking forward to starting the next chapter. Thx to my supporters! — Charlie Brenneman (@SpaniardMMA) December 30, 2014 Brenneman’s longtime manager and coach, Mike Constantino, clarified in a text message to MMAjunkie that the fighter’s next chapter isn’t retirement and that Brenneman will continue on with his career

UBERLANDIA, Brazil – For a guy who seemed committed to getting the fight to the mat, Charlie Brenneman didn’t fare so well once it ended up there. After spending almost the entire first round search for takedowns, a momentary lapse by Brenneman (19-8 MMA, 4-7 UFC) gave Leandro Silva (17-2 MMA, 1-2 UFC) all the opening he needed to take Brenneman’s back and slide in the rear-naked choke, forcing the tap at 4:15 of Round 1.
