AUCKLAND, New Zealand – In a battle of housemates from “The Ultimate Fighter: Nations,” it was Vik Grujic who got his first UFC win with a big TKO. Grujic (7-3 MMA, 1-1 UFC) took the back of Chris Indich (5-3 MMA, 0-2 UFC) late in the first round, but when Indich got back to his feet, Grujic made him pay. The welterweight bout was part of the preliminary card of today’s UFC Fight Night 43 event at Vector Arena in Auckland, New Zealand.

The UFC rolls into its second single-day doubleheader in the past month on Saturday as UFC Fight Night 43 marks the organization’s debut fight card in New Zealand. Auckland’s Vector Arena will play host to the first of two UFC events in a 24-hour stretch as UFC Fight Night 43 goes down in the wee hours of the morning for Stateside fans before the latter offering, UFC Fight Night 44, happens in Texas during the evening. Headlining the event will be two athletes in desperate need of a victory as Kiwi fighter James Te Huna (16-7 MMA, 5-3 UFC) looks to snap a two-fight skid with a drop to the middleweight division against former Strikeforce champion Nate Marquardt (32-13-2 MMA, 10-6 UFC), who is moving up to 185 pounds after a four-fight stint at welterweight. Marquardt has proven to be a far more successful fighter at middleweight through his career, and his statistics reflect that point. QUEBEC CITY – In his first professional fight in more than a year, Richard Walsh beat up fellow Aussie and “The Ultimate Fighter: Nations” competitor Chris Indich to pitch a shutout on the judges’ scorecards. Walsh, who hadn’t competed since December 2012, battered Indich at every range for unanimous 30-27 scores. The welterweight bout was part of the preliminary card of today’s TUF Nations Finale event at Colisee Pepsi in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada.

Indich lost in the opening round of the welterweight bracket against Chad Laprise, who reached the finals. But the Australian said he turned that loss into an important learning experience he hopes pays off tonight.

With an all-Canada set of tournament finals, plus another pair of new matchups from the house, the TUF Nations Finale now is set for next week. In the welterweight final, Canadaian teammates Chad Laprise (7-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) and Olivier Aubin-Mercier (4-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) meet on the main card. And in the middleweight final, Elias Theodorou (8-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) meets his Team Canada teammate Sheldon Westcott (8-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC). The tournament finals were set after Wednesday night’s final regular-season episode of “The Ultimate Fighter: Nations” on FOX Sports 1, which pitted fighters from Australia against a team from Canada. On the preliminary card, at middleweight, Australia’s Vik Grujic (6-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC), who lost to Westcott in the semifinals, will meet Team Canada’s Nordine Taleb (8-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC). And at welterweight, Australia’s Chris Indich (6-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) takes on teammate Richard Walsh (7-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC), who fell in the semis against Aubin-Mercier.

Being that this episode was a Canada vs. Canada fight, it was pretty much all based around Team Canada, which was pretty interesting from my perspective. Everyone seemed happy with the semifinal matchups chosen by Dana White, and Team Canada knew some members would eventually have to fight each other, which is exactly what happened with Kajan Johnson and Chad Laprise . I didn’t know about a lot of what went on with Team Canada behind the scenes until viewing the episode.

It was great for Richard Walsh to keep the momentum in our team and also great for “Filthy” Rich to get the win for himself. He put in a great showing getting the win without showing all his weapons and leaving the Canadians guessing with what he may bring to the table in his next bout. Now with who was the question. With still one welterweight fight to come, could it even be Olivier Aubin-Mercier , or Jake Matthews even. But for now it, was Chad Laprise and Kajan Johnson both eyeing off Rich in an attempt, I guess, to get him on board with approval of their matchup together. But in previous seasons, it’s been up to Dana White usually

So here we come, catching up to the Canadians! Great to get two wins on the board, and now we could feel that the moment for Team Australia was gaining and just needed to keep the ball rolling. The Canadians didn’t think that Tyler Manawaroa would beat Nordine Taleb, their “No. 1,” so to see their spirits deflated was somewhat satisfying, and we knew “Richy” ( Richard Walsh ) was going to put in a good performance against Matthew Desroches . Coming back From Tyler’s fight, everyone was in a good mood, and as we got to see a bit last week, most of us Aussies have never experienced playing with snow. It was good to finally break the ice between some of the Canadians and have some banter with a bit of a snow fight. It was also good to see that Jake Matthews was willing to do anything to get his ass on TV! (Hahaha, nice one Jake!) I’m sure that won’t be the last time we see that side of him.
