Justin Rader had two things in mind in his quest to become LFA’s featherweight champion against titleholder Kevin Aguilar : kicks and takedowns. The kicks were mostly there throughout for Rader (6-3). The takedowns, not so much, and Aguilar (13-1) retained his 145-pound title with a unanimous decision victory in the LFA 18 main event – despite some solid moments from the challenger throughout the five-round fight.

The lineup is taking shape for next month’s LFA 18 event, which features a title fight and an MMA journalist/recent UFC competitor. Officials today announced the event takes place Aug. 4 at FireLake Arena in Shawnee, Okla., and the main card airs on AXS TV. In the headliner, reigning featherweight champion Kevin Aguilar (12-1) meets Justin Rader (7-2). Aguilar, a 28-year-old Texan, was the final Legacy FC champion, and following a merger with RFA and the creation of LFA, he beat Damon Jackson via knockout to win the inaugural belt

UFC 197 medical suspensions confirm Saint Preux suffered broken arm against Jones

UFC interim light heavyweight champ Jon Jones did, in fact, break Ovince Saint Preux ’s arm during their title fight at this past Saturday’s UFC 197. Medical suspensions released by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, which oversaw the pay-per-view event at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena, reveal Saint Preux (19-8 MMA, 7-3 UFC) suffered a broken left ulna against Jones (22-1 MMA, 16-1 UFC) and needs medical clearance to avoid a six-month suspension. Although he earned a dominant decision and the interim title, Jones didn’t escape the bout unscathed. He needs an X-ray for his left foot and could receive a six-month term unless cleared by a doctor. A total of 15 fighters were suspended by the NSAC following the event, which also featured a flyweight title bout between champ Demetrious Johnson (24-2-1 MMA, 12-1-1 UFC) and Henry Cejudo (10-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC). Johnson notched his eighth title defense with a first-round TKO

We learned today that’s not quite the case after his first official statement following a tweet that exploded around the sports world. The real issue, McGregor said, is that his days of doing the heavy promotional lifting for his fights need to be over so he can worry about preparing and not talking to cameras. But that didn’t change McGregor (19-3 MMA, 7-1 UFC) being pulled from his UFC 200 rematch with Nate Diaz (19-10 MMA, 14-8 UFC). Because he didn’t want to show up to Las Vegas this week for a news conference and some commercial shoots, the company pulled him from the card. Ahead of Saturday’s UFC 197 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, we spoke to fighters from the card to find out just where the line is between doing the kind of promotional work McGregor did leading up to his UFC 196 loss to Diaz, and what he says he requires now – which is next to nothing so he can train.

Sergio Pettis vs. Chris Kelades now closes out UFC 197′s preliminary card

The lineup is nearly set for next month’s UFC 197 event, which has a new featured preliminary-card bout. A flyweight bout between Sergio Pettis (13-2 MMA, 4-2 UFC) and Chris Kelades (9-2 MMA, 2-1 UFC) has moved from the UFC Fight Pass preliminary card to the FOX Sports 1-televised portion of the prelims. It serves as the lead-in to the night’s main card. UFC 197 takes place April 23 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The main card airs on pay-per-view. Pettis recently scored a unanimous-decision victory over former title challenger Chris Cariaso.
