Ciryl Gane reveals ‘traumatizing’ details of robbery during UFC Paris

Shortly after Ciryl Gane won his UFC Paris main event, it was revealed that his home had been burglarized while he was away for fight week. French outlet, Le Parisien was the first to report the news and now, weeks removed from the robbery, Gane is finally speaking out about what happened. “It’s not only my country, I suppose you have this everywhere the world, but yeah, in my country, unfortunately, when you are a little bit famous now — you see MMA in France, everybody talks about that, and everybody can see how much I can win. So yeah, he did a great job because he waited [until my] fight, the last fight,” Gane said Monday on The MMA Hour . “He waited the night and he went out [to my] home and he did some bulls***.” The “he” Gane is referring to is the person who robbed and ransacked his Nogent-sur-Marne home. There was a lot on the line in the main event at UFC Paris on Saturday, Sept. 2. Ciryl Gane was looking to get back in the win column and stay undefeated at home on his quest to get back to the title. His opponent, Sergey Spivak was looking to prove he’s title material with a win over a highly ranked, toughest test of his career. It turned out to be Gane’s night after he finished Spivak with a flurry of strikes in the second round. Tom Aspinall was in the crowd, and many thought the pair might face off next to see who would face the UFC heavyweight champion after Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic was decided. “Today is was my mission to prove I’m still here,” he said after the win. MMA Twitter reacted to the finish online. Ok Gane impressed the hell out of me.

Ciryl Gane is no stranger to UFC main events … or title shots. Coming off his loss to Jon Jones, Gane is the same positive fighter who still has his eyes set squarely on the prize, another UFC title shot. “The better way for me is to do exactly what we did the last years – to put a big message this Saturday, and the message is: ‘I’m still here, I want to go back to the belt.’ This is the better way, shorter way to go to the belt,” Gane said during his UFC Paris media day interview. Gane will step in again, this time versus Serghei Spivac, who likely has his own title aspirations. “All of my career, I was in a rush,” Gane said.
