While Marlon Moraes is a significant favorite over Brandon Hempleman at this Saturday’s World Series of Fighting 4 event, there’s one thing neither Moraes nor oddsmakers can prepare for: “Hot Rod’s” element of surprise. Entering his promotional debut against one of the most highly touted bantamweight prospects in the game today, few are giving Hempleman a chance of getting his hand raised against an opponent riding an impressive four-fight win streak.   As for Hempleman (9-1), he views his under-the-radar profile as an advantage and believes his lack of notoriety will be advantageous against Moraes (10-4-1) come fight night, particularly in the striking department.   “I think he’s going to underestimate (my striking), so he better be ready for it,” Hempleman told MMAjunkie.com Radio (www.mmajunkie.com/radio). “There’s not a lot of video on me.”  Having fought his first 10 professional bouts in regional promotions throughout the United States and Europe, Hempleman has quietly worked his way up to the opportunity he will get Saturday at Citizens Bank Arena in Ontario, Calif.   Moraes is a fighter who has received a lot of attention since defeating Miguel Torres and Tyson Nam in his first two WSOF appearances, and Hempleman has been keeping a close eye on his opponent’s body of work.   “I think (his standup) is good,” Hempleman said.

Joe Murphy Out at WSOF 4, Top Bantamweight Prospect John Robles Now Faces Jared Papazian

Joe Murphy suffered a rib injury and has been forced out of his World Series of Fighting 4 bout with John Robles. Jared Papazian, on just two weeks notice, has already agreed to step in and take his place, according to WSOF officials. Papazian and Robles now meet in a bantamweight contest at World Series of Fighting 4: Spong vs. DeAnda on Aug. 10 at Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, Calif. The bout takes place on the evening’s preliminary card, which streams on World Series of Fighting’s official website, WSOF.com, and MMAWeekly.com, ahead of the NBC Sports Network-televised main card. Robles (7-1) and Papazian (15-10) are both making their promotional debuts and consider each other friends

Former UFC fighter Jared Papazian (15-10) has replaced injured bantamweight Joe Murphy (6-1) and now fights his friend John Robles (7-1) next week at World Series of Fighting 4. WSOF officials today announced the change, citing a rib injury that Murphy suffered during a training session. WSOF 4 takes place Aug. 10 at Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, Calif.

Ray Sefo Taking Temporary Leave as Company President to Fight at WSOF 4

World Series of Fighting president Ray Sefo is doing something most high-level fight promoters don’t do. He’s going to return to active competition and fight on his promotion’s upcoming fight card. Sefo will square off with Dave Huckaba in a three-round heavyweight bout at World Series of Fighting 4 on Aug. 10 at the Citizens Bank Arena in Ontario, Calif. In preparation for the bout, Sefo is taking a temporary leave of absence from his duties as company president.
