Clay Guida confirms UFC exit (but not retirement) after 19 years with promotion

After nearly two decades, “The Carpenter” has split from the UFC. Clay Guida ’s name was recently removed from the promotion’s online roster (per @UFCRosterTracker ) and Saturday he confirmed the parting of ways to be true in a lengthy, heartfelt Instagram post. Guida (38-25 MMA, 18-19 UFC) was the longest-tenured fighter on the promotion’s active roster. It’s unclear if he was released or did not renew at the conclusion of a contract. “There is nothing I enjoy more than stepping into the octagon and fighting for our fans,” Guida wrote.

Clay Guida suffered his third consecutive loss at UFC 310. ”The Carpenter” faced Chase Hooper on the early preliminary fight card and was defeated via submission in the first round. Guida was one of a trio of fighters UFC CEO Dana White said that he’d like to see retire during the UFC 310 Post-Fight Press Conference. LAS VEGAS – UFC CEO Dana White would like to see multiple veteran fighters who competed at UFC 310 to call it a career. The final pay-per-view event of 2024 at T-Mobile Arena hosted a variety of matchups, including fighters such as Clay Guida , who made his 37th walk to the UFC octagon, to Kai Asakura , who made a rare title shot debut in the main event. Following the event, White was asked by a reporter about the future of veterans like Guida (38-25 MMA, 18-19 UFC), Anthony Smith , and Chris Weidman , who all not only failed to record a victory but were finished in their fights. White’s answer was short and direct. “They all retire tonight,” White replied at a post-event news conference. “They should all retire tonight.” In the second fight of the early prelims, Guida was submitted by Chase Hooper in the first round

In 2023, USADA tested 739 mixed martial artists a combined 4,231 times. While many athletes were randomly tested less than 10 times, some were tested two dozen – and some others, even more.

UFC on ESPN 52 took place Saturday at Moody Center in Austin, Texas and featured a dozen fights. Of the 24 competitors on the card, 12 fighters were suspended 180 days due to injuries sustained in their bouts, according to documentation from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR), the commissioning body that oversaw the event. Among those who received the lengthiest suspensions are both sides of the main event, Arman Tsarukyan and Beneil Dariush, as well as co-main eventer Bobby Green. The TDLR does not reveal injury specifics, just the duration of the suspensions
