LAS VEGAS – The UFC is contemplating the elimination of fight-night and discretionary bonuses to fighters, the promotion's president told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). "You don't like the structure? All right, we'll pay the lower-level guys more money – no more f--king bonuses," Dana White said. "You guys come in, you negotiate your contracts, and we do away with all bonuses. That's what I'm thinking about doing." White today said he and UFC co-owner and CEO Lorenzo Fertitta came up with the idea to redistribute wealth after several former and current UFC fighters publicly criticized the way the promotion pays its fighters. And if they follow through with it, they could find out very quickly if those currently under contract believe the current system is as bad as its often made to be. White said that for every UFC event that "kicks ass," the promotion "makes sure that everybody gets a piece of the extra." Now, the promotion could boost fighters' base salaries across the board and take away rewards for those that perform. "The bonuses are something we've been doing out of the kindness of our f--king heart," White said. "It was something we liked to do. Apparently, people don't like it.

When Dana White first heard that Jon Fitch described his experience with the promotion as a "hostile work environment," the UFC boss had to do a double take. After all, he and UFC co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta authorized more than $400,000 in non-contracted compensation for Fitch during his time with the promotion. "In the time Jon Fitch was with us, we paid him $302,000 in discretionary bonuses – $302,000," White told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). "That's money that me and Lorenzo decided to give him above and beyond the deal that he signed.
Despite efforts and reports to the contrary, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua will not be fighting Chael Sonnen at UFC 161 on June 15 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. After Shogun’s original UFC 161 opponent, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira , had to withdraw from the bout due to back problems, Sonnen tweeted to Shogun that he was still looking for a fight. UFC co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta told Kevin Iole, a reporter for MMAWeekly.com official content partner Yahoo! Sports, that Shogun vs. Sonnen was an option they were considering, but that no deal had been struck. The deal did not get done, at least not for UFC 161, as UFC officials announced late Monday night. “With Lil Nog injured, @ShogunRua is left opponentless 2 weeks out; #ufc161 will proceed with 11 fights and Shogun will fight on a card soon,” the UFC stated on its official Twitter account. With the removal of the Shogun fight, a preliminary bout between Ryan Jimmo and Igor Pokrajac has been moved to the main card on pay-per-view. Shogun’s agent, Lucas Pires, told Brazilian website Combate.com that his fighter immediately accepted when he was told that Sonnen had offered to fight him, but Sonnen could be the reason the fight won’t happen at UFC 161.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship is considering hosting an event at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway later this year the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported on Monday. Speedway president Chris Powell approached UFC president Dana White and UFC co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta about the idea on Friday when Powell and White were inducted into the Southern Nevada Sports Hall of Fame. Powell said the idea makes sense, “because we put on big events, and they put on big events.” White was open to the offer. “I like it,” said White. “It would be cool as hell, and we have a few fights coming up that could pull it off.” Powell said his initial vision was to erect a temporary bowl in the infield for a better view of the action in the 1,200 acre complex.
