Winless in his most recent two performances prior to Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 253 and on the last fight of his contract, Brundage (11-6 MMA, 5-5 UFC) had a lot on the line facing Julian Marquez in the co-main event of the card.

The first of five UFC events in the month of March took place Saturday with UFC Fight Night 253 , which went down at UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The 10-fight lineup was capped off by a flyweight headliner. Manel Kape (21-7 MMA, 6-3 UFC) rose to the occasion of his first main event with the promotion with a third-round TKO of Asu Almabayev (21-3 MMA, 4-1 UFC).

LAS VEGAS – Fighters from Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 253 event took home UFC Promotional Guidelines Compliance pay totaling $134,500. The program, a comprehensive plan that includes outfitting requirements, media obligations and other items under the fighter code of conduct, replaces the previous payments made under the UFC Athlete Outfitting Policy. Cody Brundage and Julian Marquez did not relish being matched up at UFC Fight Night 253 after their history of training with each other. However, you wouldn’t have known it when they got inside the octagon for the middleweight co-headliner on Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. After trading heavy shots from the outset and each having their moments, Brundage (11-6 MMA, 5-5 UFC) landed the cleanest blow and put Marquez (9-6 MMA, 3-6 UFC) down and into survival mode. He attempted to push through it, but Brundage was relentless and the fight was waved off at the 4:45 mark of Round 1. LAS VEGAS – Starting with his fall 2020 fight on DWCS, Cody Brundage got basically permanently busy. Brundage fought a dozen times in less than four years, and 10 of those, starting in September 2021, have been in the UFC. Like Indiana Jones said, “It’s not the years, honey – it’s the mileage.” And though he’s just into his 30s, Brundage has put plenty of mileage on in the past few years. It warranted a longer break than he’d been accustomed to – coming up on eight months after a 37-second no contest when Abdul Razak Alhassan hit him with elbows to the back of the head.
