After a 15-fight career, including his past four in the UFC, 33-year-old light heavyweight Cody Donovan is retiring from MMA. The Coloradan, a product of Grudge Training Center near Denver, made the announcement Tuesday on his official website . Donovan (8-5 MMA, 1-3 UFC), has dropped three straight fights, all by knockout or TKO. “After much thought and discussion with my coaches and wife, we decided it is time to close this chapter of my life,” Donovan stated in his announcement.

DUBLIN – Cody Donovan seemed to have turned the tide in his favor against Nikita Krylov in the first round. But with less than a minute left, when things went south, they went south quickly. Krylov (17-4 MMA, 2-2 UFC) stopped an exhausted Donovan (8-5 MMA, 1-3 UFC) with just three seconds left in the frame for a TKO. The UFC’s annual “International Fight Week” came to an end on Sunday evening with The Ultimate Fighter 19 Finale from Las Vegas’ Mandalay Bay Events Center. It was a solid event headlined by a matchup between former UFC champions Frankie Edgar (17-4-1 MMA, 11-4-1 UFC) and B.J. Penn (16-10-2 MMA, 12-9-2 UFC), who were fighting for the third time. It wasn’t much of a fight, though, as Edgar steamrolled Penn for two rounds before stopping the fight in the third frame. Prior to that, two new winners of “The Ultimate Fighter” reality series were crowned as Corey Anderson (3-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) and Eddie Gordon (7-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) both smashed their opponents in roughly one minute to score six-figure UFC contracts

Welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre might be taking a hiatus from the sport, but officially he’ll be cleared to return to the cage in less than three months. Despite losing memory courtesy of Johny Hendricks’ punches, St-Pierre is good to go after 45 days and 30 days of no contact, according to medical suspensions received today from the Nevada State Athletic Commission, which oversaw this past Saturday’s UFC 167 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
