At 42, Cristiano Marcello is unsure if he’s done fighting but says he is fully focused on building his gym’s legacy. Owner of CM System in Curitiba, Brazil, four-time UFC veteran Marcello has developed one of the most successful teams in his native country and continues to build champions across various organizations. Currently home to the UFC’s Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos, former Brave CF lightweight champion Luan Santiago, current Brave CF middleweight champion Daniel Gaucho and three current Future FC champs, Marcello said he is happy with the group of guys he’s helped groom over the years at the gym

JARAGUA DO SUL, Brazil – By the time the third round was finished, Joe Proctor ’s right hand and Cristiano Marcello ’s head had gotten to know each other intimately, though not in any fashion you’d call friendly. It wasn’t a pleasant association for Marcello, who seemed lucky to make it to the final horn, but for Proctor it was good enough to earn him a unanimous-decision victory (29-28, 30-27, 29-28) over his friend and former training partner.

Cristiano Marcello is in a position in his career that most people dream of. Right now, he’s doing what he wants to do because he loves it. His job could go away, and it wouldn’t keep him from earning a living. For Marcello, fighting in the UFC is essentially a hobby that he’s using to help keep his coaching career growing.

The lineup is set for next month’s UFC Fight Night 36 event, which is the UFC’s first Brazilian event of 2014. UFC Fight Night 36 takes place Feb. 15 at Arena Jaragua in Jaragua do Sul, Santa Caarina, Brazil. The night’s main card airs on FOX Sports 1 following prelims on UFC Fight Pass. The headliner features former UFC champion and Brazilian star Lyoto Machida (20-4 MMA, 12-4 UFC), who meets ex-Strikeforce/DREAM champion and fellow middleweight Gegard Mousasi (34-3-2 MMA, 1-0 UFC)
