After splitting a pair of decisions against the man who has become his MMA nemesis, Stevie Ray wanted to put an exclamation point on a fight with Curt Warburton for once. With a second-round rear-naked choke finish, he did just that. Ray defended his lightweight title with the tapout win in the main event of Cage Warriors 73’s second main card on Saturday. The fight took place at Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle, England, and streamed live on MMAjunkie. June’s Cage Warriors 69 to feature two main cards, two title fights in London

Cage Warriors Fighting Championship is going all in for its June event in London. The promotion on Tuesday announced that Cage Warriors 69 will be christened “Super Saturday” and will feature two main cards. Then the England-based promotion will take a hiatus of more than two months while soccer’s World Cup plays out. Cage Warriors 69 is set for June 7 at The Forum in London, and already announced for the card was a fight for the vacant lightweight title between Curt Warburton (13-4) and Stevie Ray (14-5). Cage Warriors Fighting Championship will crown a new lightweight champion in June. The promotion on Tuesday announced it has released titleholder Ivan Buchinger from his contract. That leaves a vacancy that will be filled by either Curt Warburton (13-4) or Stevie Ray (14-5), who will meet in a rematch in England Cage Warriors 69 is set for June 7 at The Forum in London, headlined by Warburton vs. Ray for the newly vacant 155-pound belt. Warburton tore right through Wesley Murch for a standing rear-naked choke victory just 49 seconds into the fighters’ main event at Cage Warriors 62.
