For the third consecutive UFC event, the headlining bout attracted the bulk of the post-fight attention due to a spectacular knockout. This time it was Alexander Gustafsson (16-2 MMA, 8-2 UFC) who delivered the goods when he stopped Jimi Manuwa (14-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC) with a brutal assault of strikes in the second round of Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 37 headliner. The organization’s 15th English event was a good one, with five of the nine UFC Fight Pass-streamed matchups ending with a knockout or submission, four of which occurred in the first round. UFC Fight Night 37, which took place at London’s O2 Arena, was the second of four UFC fight cards slated for a busy month of March. Cyrille Diabate officially retires after UFC Fight Night 37 loss to Latifi

LONDON – Cyrille Diabate was sure of his plans heading into Saturday’s fight in London. Afterward, he reaffirmed them. After a first-round submission loss to Ilir Latifi (8-3 MMA, 1-1 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 37, Diabate (19-10-1 MMA, 4-4 UFC) called it quits on a combat sports career that has spanned more than 20 years. Diabate first told MMAjunkie about his intentions to retire on Thursday, two days before his fight with Latifi, which took place at O2 Arena in London. At that time, it sounded like he was hanging up his gloves, win or lose. At the post-event news conference for Saturday’s card, he confirmed the plan.

LONDON – After more than 20 years in combat sports, Cyrille Diabate believes it’s time to call it quits. The 40-year-old fighter, from France, on Thursday told MMAjunkie that his fight against Ilir Latifi at Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 37 event in London will be his last. Diabate (19-9-1 MMA, 4-3 UFC) and Ilir Latifi (7-3 MMA, 0-1 UFC) close out the preliminary card of the show, which takes place at O2 Arena in London and streams on UFC Fight Pass.
