UFC parts ways with eight fighters, including two after decade-long tenures

Eight fighters are no longer on the UFC roster, including two athletes who were with the promotion approximately a decade each. Whether it was the impending wave of fighters who will be signed to compete on “ Dana White’s Contender Series,” Season 7 or simply performance or contract-based decisions, the promotion parted ways with these fighters in recent weeks. Algorithm-based Twitter account UFC Roster Watch first published the transactions when the promotion removed the fighters from official rankings eligibility. Unless denoted, it is unclear whether each athlete was released or fought out their contract.

Jiri Prochazka (29-3-1 MMA, 3-0 UFC) came out on the winning end of a brutal battle with Glover Teixeira (33-8 MMA, 16-6 UFC) to claim the light heavyweight title with a fifth-round submission . In the co-main event, Valentina Shevchenko (23-3 MMA, 12-2 UFC) faced the toughest test of her women’s flyweight title reign. Brazilian challenger Taila Santos (19-2 MMA, 4-2 UFC) pushed the champion to a split decision , but ultimately couldn’t claim the strap. SINGAPORE – Fighters from Saturday’s UFC 275 event took home UFC Promotional Guidelines Compliance pay totaling $258,000. The program, a comprehensive plan that includes outfitting requirements, media obligations and other items under the fighter code of conduct, replaces the previous payments made under the UFC Athlete Outfitting Policy.

SINGAPORE – Danaa Batgerel didn’t have a hard time getting over his loss to Chris Gutierrez . Batgerel (12-3 MMA, 3-2 UFC) saw his three-fight winning streak snapped by Gutierrez in his past outing at UFC on ESPN 33 in March, and although it was a tough pill to swallow, his opponent’s post-fight speech put things into perspective. An emotional Gutierrez dedicated his win to his sick mother, who is battling cancer, and that made Batgerel a lot more accepting of his setback. “Of course, right after the loss I was upset rightfully so,” Batgerel told MMA Junkie. “But after listening to Chris Gutierrez’s post-fight interview where he mentioned that his mother was ill and everything, I felt like my opponent needed the victory more than me, and it made me feel a little better. “But from a loss standpoint, it’s always a learning experience, and I grew and learned a lot from that fight, and I’m looking forward to getting back in the win column.” Despite the momentary halt in his momentum, Batgerel’s confidence hasn’t wavered.

Curtis Blaydes may have had a flawless performance at UFC on ESPN 33, but he didn’t come out unscathed. Blaydes scored a second-round knockout of Chris Daukaus in this past Saturday’s headliner at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio, but will need clearance from an orthopedic doctor for his right foot before returning to action. Also looking at indefinite terms are Danaa Batgerel , who was knocked out by Chris Gutierrez, Marc Diakiese who needs clearance from an orthopedic doctor for his right hand and right foot after he defeated Viacheslav Borshchev by unanimous decision, and Borshchev himself, who needs his right wrist and right foot checked out. Wednesday, MMA Junkie acquired a full list of medical suspensions from Ohio Athletic Commission executive director Bernie Profato.

Chris Gutierrez has a solid highlight reel – but UFC on ESPN 33 marked perhaps his most emphatic finish yet. In the second-to-final prelim of the event, Gutierrez (18-4-2 MMA, 6-1-1 UFC) made his mark with a violent spinning backfist knockdown and follow-up elbows en route to a knockout of Danaa Batgerel (12-3 MMA, 3-2 UFC). The finish came at the 2:34 mark of Round 2. UFC on ESPN 33 took place Saturday at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio and streamed on ESPN/ESPN+.

Danaa Batgerel vs. Montel Jackson joins UFC Fight Night on March 26

The matchup between bantamweight prospects Danaa Batgerel and Montel Jackson has been rebooked. Batgerel (10-2 MMA, 3-1 UFC) faces Jackson (11-2 MMA, 5-2 UFC) at UFC Fight Night on March 26, which takes place at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio, and airs on ESPN. A person with knowledge of the matchup confirmed the booking with MMA Junkie following a social media announcement by Iridium Sports Agency. The booking has yet to be officially announced by the promotion. Batgerel and Jackson originally were scheduled to square off at UFC Fight Night 192 in September, but visa issues forced Batgerel out of the bout.
