Injuries, illness and tragedy have all changed the look of Saturday’s Bellator 154 fight card. Josh Thomson and Michael Chandler originally were scheduled to meet in the co-main event, but Thomson was forced off the card with an injury. The promotion then booked a heavyweight bout between Sergei Kharitonov and Josh Appelt, but that fight was also scratched from the event when Kharitonov fell ill earlier this week . Tragedy struck the event earlier this month when Jordan Parsons, who was scheduled to face Adam Piccolotti , ultimately lost his life in a hit-and-run accident in Delray Beach, Fla

Sergei Kharitonov After losing one high-profile bout, officials today added some new fights to this month’s Bellator 154 lineup. With an injury forcing Josh Thomson (22-8 MMA, 2-0 BMMA) out of a planned bout with former lightweight champion Michael Chandler (14-3 MMA, 11-3 BMMA), the organization has scrapped the matchup altogether. Bellator 154, which goes head-to-head with UFC 198’s preliminary card, takes place May 14 at SAP Center in San Jose, Calif. The main card airs on Spike following prelims on MMAjunkie. In a heavyweight bout, PRIDE, Strikeforce and M-1 vet Sergei Kharitonov (23-5 MMA, 0-0 BMMA), who’s riding a five-fight winning streak with four consecutive knockout victories, makes his promotional debut against Josh Appelt (12-5 MMA, 3-1 BMMA), who went 3-1 in his first Bellator stint before a recent run in the California-based WFC promotion, where he went 2-2 and recently won the heavyweight title with a second-round TKO of Roy Boughton.

SACRAMENTO – Darren Uyenoyama wanted to introduce Alp Ozkilic to the UFC by putting him on his back, but Ozkilic had other ideas. Ozkilic repeatedly stuffed 11 of Uyenoyama’s 13 takedown attempts, landed two takedowns of his own to do work on top and landed more power shots on his way to a win in his UFC debut. The flyweight bout opened up the preliminary card of today’s UFC on FOX 9 event at Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento. Flyweight newcomer Alp Ozkilic replaces John Moraga at UFC on FOX 9

Promotional newcomer Alp Ozkilic (8-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) has replaced injured John Moraga (13-2 MMA, 2-1 UFC) and now meets fellow flyweight Darren Uyenoyama (8-4 MMA, 2-1 UFC) at next month’s UFC on FOX 9 event. UFC officials today announced the change.
