Then it’s down to Florida, where Michael Quinones needed just 37 seconds to put down Matt McCook with strikes at Absolute Fighting Championship 24. Also in Florida, Jared Gooden was able to get a quick rear-naked choke win over Smith Amisial at Orlando City Fight Night 1 We wrap up with a few big knockouts, as Max Griffin downed David Mitchell at West Coast Fighting 16, and T.J. Laramie blasted Yvon Agenord at Hard Knocks Fighting 48. Check out all the highlights in the video above.

Rousimar Palhares and Jon Fitch Rousimar Palhares (17-6) added another victim to his growing list of submission wins when he finished Jon Fitch (26-7-1) with a first-round knee bar in the WSOF 16 headliner at McClellan Conference Center in Sacramento, Calif. “Toquinho” defended his WSOF welterweight title for the first time with a leg lock submission of Fitch, who tapped out in a fight for just the third time in his professional career. After roughly a minute of time spent on the feet, the action shifted to the ground. To the surprise of no one, Palhares immediately attacked Fitch’s leg and began working toward his trademark heel hook. Fitch briefly defended the submission, but once Palhares adjusted the knee bar, the former UFC title challenger frantically tapped out to give the Brazilian his sixth victory in his past eight bouts

Randall Wallace replaces David Mitchell in Friday’s Battlegrounds MMA tourney

This week’s Battlegrounds MMA event in Oklahoma has seen some late changes and additions. David Mitchell (13-4) has been forced out of the single-night, eight-man welterweight tournament. Stepping in for him is Randall Wallace (9-2). In addition, Jonny Carson (11-6) now will meet Danny Navarro (11-4). Carson was set to meet Ryan Couture , but Couture recently signed with Bellator MMA and had a successful debut with that promotion.

Filed under: Featured , Featured Videos , News , Only on Junkie , UFC Despite an impressive performance in his most recent UFC title win, Jon Jones (20-1 MMA, 14-1 UFC) continues to come under heavy fire for using tactics that some perceive as “dirty.” Recently, former UFC heavyweight champion and current AXS TV analyst Bas Rutten admitted he felt Jones’ tendency to reach forward with an open hand, which sometimes results in an eye poke, was a technique that needs to change . But others have suggested Jones’ oft-used lineal kicks to the knee – and even the shoulder lock he used to injure Glover Teixeira at UFC 172 – are unscrupulous attacks. While at a Wednesday media session at Urijah Faber’s famed Ultimate Fitness gym, home of Team Alpha Male, MMAjunkie asked a few high-profile competitors to offer up their opinion on Jones’ efforts.

Eight months ago, David Mitchell (14-4) admits he was considering walking away from MMA. A cup of coffee and a trip to Sacramento changed all that. “My dad always said growing up, ‘If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,’ but when you go one-for-five and you get knocked out and you lose that many fights in a row, something is obviously broken,” Mitchell told MMAjunkie. “It was time for a fresh start.” Mitchell opened his professional fighting career at 11-0, with nine of those victories coming by way of submission.

Cody McKenzie, Dennis Hallman, Luigi Fioravanti join single-night tourney

Some familiar names have entered the eight-man field for a single-night MMA tournament that will earn the winner $50,000. BattleGrounds MMA, an upstart promotion headed by 1998 Olympic gold medal wrestler Kenny Monday, recently announced the June 27 tournament, which takes place at BOK Center in Tulsa, Okla. Broadcast plans are still being finalized.
