UFC 163 Fighter Bonuses: Anthony Perosh Leads $50,000 Award Winners with 14-Second KO

The Ultimate Fighting Championship handed out $50,000 performance bonuses to four fighters following UFC 163 on Saturday in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Anthony Perosh, Sergio Moraes, Ian McCall and Iliarde Santos took home the bonus awards. Knockout of the Night honors went to Anthony Perosh , who knocked out Vinny Magalhaes in just 14 seconds. The Australian knocked Magalhaes down with a right hand and finished with a series of punches on the ground. The Submission of the Night award went to Sergio Moraes for his first round submission of Neil Magny. Moraes was able to get inside Magny’s reach advantage to get the fight to the ground. From there, he applied a triangle choke and forced The Ultimate Fighter alum to tap out. Fight of the Night was awarded to flyweights Ian McCall and Iliarde Santos . The fight kicked off the preliminary card that aired on FX. McCall was the quicker fighter, beating Santos to the punch throughout the fight. Santos pressed forward and had his moments, but in the end, McCall won by unanimous decision

UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo puts his belt on the line against Chan Sung Jung (aka the Korean Zombie) at UFC 163 on Saturday night in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. First, Aldo, Jung, and the rest of the fighters had to make weight on Friday at the HSBC Arena. The champion and the challenger must weigh-in on weight or below to make a title bout official, and neither “No matter what people might think, I’m confident in my ability to win,” said Jung after stepping off the scale. The champion wasn’t lacking for confidence either. “I feel more confident with the crowd because the push me forward all the time,” said Aldo about fighting in front of his home country fans. “I don’t care what (Korean Zombie) is doing, how he’s training. I can’t be beaten here at home.” Lyoto Machida and Phil Davis square off in the night’s co-main event in a pivotal light heavyweight bout, the winner making a strong claim for a title shot.

UFC featherweight contender Cub Swanson wants a title shot against champion Jose Aldo , but isn’t going to sit around and wait for it to happen. Riding a five-fight winning streak and finishing four of his last five opponents, Swanson has positioned himself on a short list of names at the top of the 145-pound division. Aldo is scheduled to face Chan Sung Jung , “The Korean Zombie,” on August 3 at UFC 163 in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, and if Swanson has to take another fight before getting a crack at the title, he has some names in mind. “Well, if they are going to give someone else Aldo then that’s way too long for me to wait. I’m in prime position right now. I’m doing well. There’s no sense in me waiting, but I do want that fight and if I have to fight one more time then I would like the Ricardo Lamas fight or the Frankie Edgar fight,” Swanson told MMAWeekly.com content partner Knockout Radio . “There’s also Chad Mendes , but he’s got to get through my teammate, Clay Guida , first,” he added. “So my first choice would be Aldo. I don’t think The Korean Zombie is going to beat him and so then after that it would either be Lamas or Edgar. They’d be my next choices.” Taking another fight in the talent-rich 145-pound division is risky, but it’s a risk Swanson is willing to take. “I’ve thought about that and I just think that if I did, for some reason, lose because the talent is so high, I wouldn’t get down on myself. I would just make the adjustments and try to get right back on a win streak because at this point of my career and in my life, I’m having so much fun fighting and I just like to get out there and do it,” he said

Josh Koscheck Injured, Out of UFC 163 Fight with Demian Maia

function not found An injury has forced UFC welterweight Josh Koscheck off the UFC 163 card and out of the scheduled fight with Demian Maia . UFC officials announced the news on Friday, but no further details about the nature of the injury were provided. Koscheck (17-7) has lost back-to-back fights and was looking to rebound against Maia on the August 3 fight card. Maia (18-4) was looking to extend his winning streak to four consecutive fights. Since dropping down from the middleweight division, Maia has won three fights in a row as a welterweight with wins over Dong Hyun Kim, Rick Story and Jon Fitch . Maia has been removed from the card, and it is unknown how long Koscheck will be sidelined. UFC 163 takes place at HSBC Arena in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. A light heavyweight match-up between former titleholder Lyoto Machida and Phil Davis has been added to the UFC 163 fight card. Portaldovaletudo.uol.com first reported the match-up on Monday and MMAWeekly.com has confirmed through sources close to the bout that Davis and Machida have verbally agreed to the fight. Machida (19-3) is on a two-fight winning streak, defeating Ryan Bader and Dan Henderson in his last two outings. A win over Davis could move Machida to the top of a short list of names to get a title shot. Davis (11-1-1) is also riding a two-fight winning streak and has only been defeated by former light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans .
