American Top Team fighter Steve Montgomery (4-2) knew this was going to be his moment. A life-changing visit to train with the famed Diaz brothers had given him a new outlook on his MMA career, and this was his time to shine. Then came something he never anticipated. “I had this caged-animal-type posture because I had so much aggression that I was ready to let out,” Montgomery told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). “I was ready to find out who I was fighting, and I was really excited. For them to call me out against my teammate, my posture just dropped.” Montgomery was one of 32 welterweights picked to compete on the debut season of Bellator MMA’s “Fight Master.” With a $100,000 grand prize and a spot in a future Bellator tournament on the line, Montgomery had put in several months of dedicated training toward prepping himself for the opportunity. Together with fellow ATT fighter Cristiano Souza , the pair pushed each other in training and plotted their path to the top. The path didn’t exactly follow their plan.

Mike “Quick” Swick Plans to Return to the Middleweight Division

The last few years of Mike Swick ’s fighting career have been marred with injuries and illness. With that behind him, Swick plans to return to the middleweight division in his next fight. “I wanna come back at a big and healthy 185. No more sickly 170 for me,” Swick recently posted on Twitter. After making a name for himself in the WEC, Swick was featured on the debut season of The Ultimate Fighter in 2005 as a light heavyweight. He advanced to the semifinals before losing to Stephan Bonnar by submission.

Randy Couture on Fight Master: Bellator MMA: “Everything Went Fantastic”

UFC Hall of Famer Randy “The Natural” Couture is one of four coaches on the upcoming season of Fight Master: Bellator MMA . The Spike TV original series debuts on June 19, and Couture says everything in filming went “fantastic.” “It’s going to start airing the nineteenth of June on Spike TV. Everything went fantastic,” Couture told MMAWeekly.com. Thirty-two welterweight hopefuls will compete for a $100,000 prize and an automatic entry into a future Bellator tournament. “I was very excited about the level of competition and the level of talent that we had involved in the show. I was also very pleased with the direction of the show,” said Couture. “Bertram (van Munster) and Elise (Doganieri) are well-known Emmy-award-winning producers with The Amazing Race , and this is kind of their baby. I’m excited to see some of the edit and how it comes out,” he said. Couture coached opposite Chuck Liddell in the debut season of The Ultimate Fighter on Spike TV in 2006. In comparison to The Ultimate Fighter , Couture believes Fight Master got it right by focusing on the contestants

Bellator Season 9 Moves to Friday Nights Following Sept. 7 Fight Master Live Finale

Following a successful debut season on Spike TV on Thursday nights, Bellator MMA is moving to Friday nights for Season 9 this fall. Spike TV president Kevin Kay revealed the move this week to SI.com . Bellator will kick off Season 9 with a special Saturday live event on Sept. 7, which will also serve as the season finale to its own reality series, Fight Master , but on Sept. 13 will shift to Friday nights for the season. Bellator had its first run on Spike TV from January to April of this year with Season 8, which averaged 862,000 viewers per episode, which includes the industry standard live event plus three days of DVR viewership. The live events alone average slightly less than 793,000 viewers per episode, which was nearly five times better than what Bellator was drawing on its previous network, MTV2. The Thursday night slot for its initial run on Spike included a strong lead-in audience courtesy of Impact Wrestling
