Matt Grice (15-5 MMA, 2-6 UFC) and Jeremy Larsen (8-4 MMA, 0-2 UFC) are the latest additions to this fall’s UFC 166 event. UFC officials on Wednesday night announced the bout, which sees Larsen drop to 145 pounds for the first time. It’s not yet known whether the contest will serve on the event’s pay-per-view main card or preliminary cards, which air on FOX Sports 1 and stream on Facebook. UFC 166 takes place Oct. 19 at Houston’s Toyota Center. Larsen is in dire need of a win inside the octagon following back-to-back losses in a pair of UFC fights. On the regional scene, he went 8-2 in a five-year span before appearing on “The Ultimate Fighter 15.” Grice, meanwhile, also is looking to rebound after a valiant effort against Dennis Bermudez at UFC 157, which resulted in a split-decision loss and well-deserved “Fight of the Night” bonus. Normally when a fighter competes in his hometown, there is a term commonly referred to in the fight game as “the hometown advantage.” Well, someone forgot to tell UFC light heavyweight and Belem, Brazil, native Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida about this saying before his UFC 163 bout with Phil Davis on Saturday night. And if they did tell him, rest assured, Machida would tell you that old fighting adage is for the birds. In front of his hometown faithful, inside a packed HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Machida dominated the former two-time National Champion from Penn State from pillar to post for the majority of the fight, only to suffer a perplexing unanimous decision loss as the scorecards were read. Round one was all Machida as he peppered Davis with counter jabs and body kicks from the outset. Davis circled to the left, showing some improved striking, but nothing to write home about. Midway through the first frame, Machida scored a slick straight left that drilled Davis on the chin and had him retreating. Machida followed up with a thudding flying knee to the body, as Davis recouped to the center of the Octagon. It took the former All-American almost four minutes into the round to attempt his first takedown, but when he did it was successful. As the first round came to a close, Davis was in Machida’s half-guard scoring powerful ground and pound. Round two was more of the same from Machida, as Davis opened with flashy front kicks and uncharacteristic combination punching. It looked good, but the attempts were more or less futile. Davis shot on Machida and the Brazilian sprawled with precision. The Dragon spent the majority of the round peppering his opponent with well-timed counter punching and textbook defense – something that has become a trademark of the former UFC light heavyweight champion

UFC 163 Results: Back Home in the UFC, Thales Leites Dominates Tom Watson

Prior to UFC 163 , middleweight jiu-jitsu ace Thales Leites hadn’t fought inside the Octagon since losing to Alessio Sakara at UFC 101 in 2009. That split-decision loss came just months after Leites battled middleweight champion Anderson Silva at UFC 97. For many, the release came as a surprise, as Leites was touted as one of the more highly praised ground players in MMA at the time. On Saturday night at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Leites found himself once again fighting inside the Octagon, having toiled in various promotions for the past four years. During his time away from the UFC , the Nova Unaio product managed a 6-1 record, scoring wins over UFC vets Matt Horwich and Jeremy Horn, earning his way back into the world’s premier fighting organization. English brawler Tom “Kong” Watson was the fighter given the job of welcoming Leites back to the cage. And as far as Watson was concerned, it certainly wouldn’t be a friendly welcome. Round one saw the Rio native, Leites, open up with the aggression you would expect from a man who probably spent the last 50 or so months wondering if he would ever be fighting for divisional relevancy again.

UFC and Strikeforce Veteran Caros Fodor to Make ONE FC Debut in Jakarta

Strikeforce and UFC veteran Caros Fodor is set to make his promotional debut at ONE FC: Champions & Warriors on Sept. 13 when he takes on unbeaten Korean Yang Seung Ho in Jakarta. Fodor was harshly cut from the UFC following a split decision loss to Sam Stout in February in a fight that MMAWeekly.com had him winning 29-28. Prior to that defeat, he had a successful stint in Strikeforce, going 5-1 for the now defunct organization. Yang Seung Ho (6-0) is not as well known as his American opponent, but remains undefeated in an MMA career that began in 2007.

Demian Maia vs. Jake Shields targeted for fall UFC show

A welterweight bout between Demian Maia (18-4 MMA, 12-4 UFC) and Jake Shields (28-6-1 MMA, 3-2 UFC) will be part of an upcoming fall UFC show. Although an exact date hasn’t been determined, verbal agreements are in place, according to FUEL TV’s “UFC Tonight.” The recently rumored bout features two 170-pound grapplers coming off recent victories. Since a move down to welterweight, former middleweight title challenger Maia has won three consecutive bouts. The Brazilian, who made the drop after a decision loss to now-champ Chris Weidman in early 2012, has defeated Dong Hyun Kim (TKO via injury), Rick Story (submission) and Jon Fitch (decision). Maia was expected to fight Josh Koscheck this weekend at UFC 163 but was forced off the card when his opponent suffered an injury

Today’s third change to this month’s UFC on FOX 8 event sees a shake-up in a lightweight fight, as Tim Means (18-4-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) replaces an injured Bobby Green (20-5 MMA, 1-0 UFC) and now meets Danny Castillo (15-5 MMA, 5-2 UFC) . UFC officials today announced the switch. Featuring a flyweight title fight between current champ Demetrious Johnson and top challenger John Moraga , UFC on FOX 8 takes place July 27 at KeyArena in Seattle. British featherweight Andy Ogle (9-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC) has been forced to with draw from a planned meeting with Conor McGregor (13-2 MMA, 1-0 UFC) at UFC on FOX Sports 1 1, and Max Holloway (7-2 MMA, 3-2 UFC) has taken his place. UFC officials today announced the change. UFC on FOX Sports 1 1 takes place Aug. 17 at TD Garden in Boston and will be the UFC’s debut on the new FOX Sports 1 cable network. Continuing to put Chris Leben in the UFC octagon could be dangerous. But keeping him out of it could be doubly so. That’s the conundrum UFC President Dana White currently faces. Leben (22-10 MMA, 12-9 UFC) suffered a split-decision loss to fellow middleweight Andrew Craig (9-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC) on Saturday at UFC 162 in Las Vegas (though it should have been a unanimous-decision loss). It marked his third consecutive defeat and his fourth in his past five fights. Like most of his bouts, Leben absorbed an inordinate amount of blows to the head, but he kept fighting through it. Earlier in his career, the remarkably durability was kind of exciting, and it’s made him a fan favorite. But for White, it’s becoming a reason for worry
