ONE Championship’s history-making women’s atomweight champion , Stamp Fairtex , is set to face interim champ Denice Zamboanga for a title unification bout. The atomweight (115 pounds) championship fight takes place at ONE 173 on Friday, Aug. 1, at Ball Arena in Denver (presale tickets available here ). ONE Championship officials communicated the news to MMA Junkie. Thailand’s Stamp (11-2), the first three-sport champion in ONE history, has been sidelined since winning the vacant title by defeating Seo Hee Ham at ONE Fight Night 14 in September 2023

ONE Championship reveals atomweight grand prix field, with winner to challenge champ Angela Lee

ONE Championship CEO Chatri Sityodtong recently revealed the eight women who will make up the field for the promotion’s upcoming atomweight grand prix, set to kick off on May 28. The international lineup includes American Alyse Anderson (5-1), China’s Meng Bo (17-5), Thailand’s Stamp Fairtex (5-1), South Korea’s Seo Hee Ham (23-8), Japan’s Itsuki Hirata (7-0), India’s Ritu Phogat (4-0), Ukraine’s Alyona Rassohyna (13-4) and the Philippines’ Denice Zamboanga (8-0). First round matchups for the tournament are expected to be announced shortly. As Sityodtong previously announced, the winner of the grand prix will challenge reigning ONE atomweight champion Angela Lee (10-2) later this year. Lee is currently on the sidelines while she and husband Bruno Pucci welcome their first child.

Asian MMA legend Yoshihiro Akiyama turned the tables on heavy-handed Sherif Mohamed to score a stunning first-round knockout and show that at 44, he still possesses the sort of punching power that can finish a fight in an instant. Akiyama (15-7) had to weather an early storm against Mohamed (9-6) when the Egyptian came flying out of his corner throwing bombs from the opening bell and tagged the Japanese-Korean star in the opening exchanges of their bout at “ONE Championship 109: King of the Jungle.” Mohamed had clearly arrived in Singapore looking to overwhelm the older man, and kept the pressure on as he chased the backpedaling Akiyama around the cage, connecting with heavy punches as he dominated the first 90 seconds of the fight.
