Chael Sonnen’s Submission Underground makes its debut on UFC Fight Pass Sunday, with a star-studded lineup of MMA notables scheduled to compete. And because you know there’s bound to be something a little crazy on the card if Sonnen is involved, the event will feature some tag-team grappling, as well. Submission Underground 8 takes place Sunday at Roseland Theater in Portland, Ore. The submission-only grappling card streams in its entirety on UFC Fight Pass at 6 p.m. ET

A pair of changes has hit next month’s Battlegrounds MMA event in Oklahoma. Dennis Hallman (53-14-2) and Chris Honeycutt (4-0) are out of the one-night, eight-man welterweight tournament and have been replaced by Jesse Taylor (27-10) and Joe Ray (11-3). The promotion announced the lineup changes on Tuesday. BattleGrounds MMA: “One Night Elimination (O.N.E.)” takes place Oct. 3 at BOK Center in Tulsa and airs on pay-per-view.

Fitch (25-6-1), who meets Hallman (53-14-2) in Saturday’s NBC-televised co-main event at Ocean Center in Daytona, Fla., originally was scheduled to fight Palhares (16-6) for the title. But Palhares withdrew from the fight after his mom was scheduled for surgery to treat extreme thrombosis in her legs. After a series of changes, Fitch ultimately was booked against fellow vet Hallman, but he’s still ticked he lost the original fight with Palhares. “I think it’s kind of disgusting that he could turn down a title defense on NBC,” said Fitch, who is one of the bigger names on the organization’s first network-televised card

Cody McKenzie, Dennis Hallman, Luigi Fioravanti join single-night tourney

Some familiar names have entered the eight-man field for a single-night MMA tournament that will earn the winner $50,000. BattleGrounds MMA, an upstart promotion headed by 1998 Olympic gold medal wrestler Kenny Monday, recently announced the June 27 tournament, which takes place at BOK Center in Tulsa, Okla. Broadcast plans are still being finalized.
