Robert Watley said it himself: To him, a fighter isn’t a true champion until defending their belt. After what he did in the lightweight headliner of tonight’s LFA 27, which aired live on AXS TV from Firelake Arena in Shawnee, Okla., Watley can now proudly call himself a champion. In his first attempt to defend the belt he claimed from Thiago Moises back in June, a strategic Watley (9-1) paid close attention to his corner and left no breathing room for an out-of-options Daryl Wilson (7-2). As Watley’s elbows rained down on Wilson, who’d spent the vast majority of the title bout in the same defensive position, the referee had no choice but to step in at the 4:32 mark of Round 3.

LFA will return to Oklahoma next month, and the lightweight title will be on the line in the main event. Lightweight champion Robert Watley (8-1) will take on top contender Daryl Wilson (7-1) in the LFA 27 main event, the promotion today announced.

Justin Rader had two things in mind in his quest to become LFA’s featherweight champion against titleholder Kevin Aguilar : kicks and takedowns. The kicks were mostly there throughout for Rader (6-3). The takedowns, not so much, and Aguilar (13-1) retained his 145-pound title with a unanimous decision victory in the LFA 18 main event – despite some solid moments from the challenger throughout the five-round fight.

LFA 15 results: Richard Odoms gets late tap to earn inaugural heavyweight title

Filed under: AXS TV Fights , News A lukewarm LFA 15 headlining affair got an eye-popping finish thanks to newly-crowned heavyweight champ Richard Odoms . After almost an entire five rounds spent mostly in clinches against the fence, Odoms (13-3) managed to grab hold of Jared Vanderaa ’s (5-1) right arm and quickly twist it into a kimura hold that forced him to tap at the 2:45 mark of the final round of the title headliner. The 42-year-old Odoms became LFA’s first heavyweight champion, while Vanderaa, 17 years his junior, suffered the first loss of his career after finishing his first five opponents. LFA 15 took place at FireLake Arena in Shawnee, Oklahoma.

The card, which aired on AXS TV, took place at FireLake Arena in Shawnee, Okla. Odoms paced himself throughout the five-round affair but turned it on when the opportunity presented itself, wrenching his opponent to the floor and locking in a painful kimura that left Vanderaa’s arm dangling. Additional impressive finishes included Braden Smith (7-1) downing Manuel Meraz (9-4) in the first round via D’Arce choke, as well Dan Moret (12-3) finishing Derrick Adkins (9-4) via arm-triangle choke with just one second remaining in the fight. The inaugural LFA heavyweight title will be on the line on June 30. Officials today announced the first fights for the card, which airs on AXS TV from FireLake Arena in Shawnee, Okla. In the headliner, Richard Odoms (12-3) or Jared Vanderaa (5-0) will become the organization’s first heavyweight titleholder. Odoms, a 42-year-old San Antonio police officer, recently made his LFA debut and scored a TKO victory over Willian Hoffmann. He’s now on a 4-1 run that includes three knockout victories. He takes on Vanderaa, a 25-year-old highly touted Californian who turned pro in 2015

Rafael Lovato defends 185 title vs. Cortez Coleman in Legacy FC 62 headliner
