Greg Hardy achieved his first UFC victory on Saturday when he defeated Dmitrii Smoliakov in the UFC on ESPN+ 8 co-headliner. After stumbling in his octagon debut, the controversial former NFL star Hardy (4-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) got his first win with the organization when hd defeated Smoliakov (9-3 MMA, 0-3 UFC) by first-round TKO in the co-main event matchup, which took place at BB&T Center in Sunrise, Fla., and streamed on ESPN+. This time, things didn’t go awry for Greg Hardy . In his UFC debut on Jan. 19, the controversial former NFL All-Pro was disqualified against Allen Crowder. But this time around, the hard-hitting Hardy didn’t let things get that far. At UFC on ESPN+ 8 on Saturday night, Hardy wasted little time dispatching an overmatched foe, earning the TKO victory over Dmitrii Smoliakov at 2:15 of the opening round of their heavyweight bout. Smoliakov (9-3 MMA, 0-3 UFC) clearly wanted little to do with Hardy’s power.

The UFC returns to Florida for the first time in 14 months and 12th time overall with UFC Ft. Lauderdale, which originally was set to air on ESPN until an unfortunate sequence of events occurred. In the main event, a middleweight clash is set as Ronaldo Souza meets Jack Hermansson . Originally, Yoel Romero and Paulo Costa were supposed to fight each other, but it fell through after Costa withdrew. Souza stepped in for a rematch against Romero, but then Romero withdrew earlier this month, which is when Hermansson stepped in to take on Souza. In the co-main event, former NFL All-Pro Greg Hardy makes his sophomore UFC appearance, looking to rebound from a disqualification loss when he meets Dmitrii Smoliakov in a heavyweight bout.
