PFL releases official statement regarding Bellator branding

The Bellator brand is no more. PFL MMA has released an official statement addressing the future branding of Bellator. PFL acquired the Bellator brand and its roster of fighters in November 2023 . Tuesday, PFL chairman and founder Donn Davis publicly shared the statement on social media , confirming an initial report from Ariel Helwani that the Bellator brand would no longer be used, effectively ending the brand that was founded in 2008 by Bjorn Rebney. From this point forward, it’s all PFL as the company continues overhauling its product, including eliminating its signature season tournament format. And as expected, White fired back at Davis while also taking a shot at former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou , who left the promotion after fighting out his UFC contract in 2022 to fight under the PFL banner. PFL co-owner Donn Davis has made a bold claim about the cost of the promotion’s “Battle of the Giants” pay-per-view event. The card is headlined by a heavyweight title fight between champion Renan Ferreira and former UFC champ Francis Ngannou on Oct. 19 at The Mayadeen in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Davis said the cost of this event will exceed this past Saturday’s UFC 306 event at Sphere in Las Vegas. “First of all, I believe this is the biggest event possible in MMA because of the (main and co-main events) this year, 2024,” Davis told the New York Post . “That makes it certainly the biggest thing for the PFL.

After PFL acquired the Bellator brand in December, a steady stream of complaints from some of its fighters became public. The most notable and vocal is former Bellator champion Gegard Mousasi, who said the PFL brass have cut communication with his team under what he believes is the intention to not honor the terms of his Bellator contract.
