Fabricio Werdum Wants to Wait For Cain Velasquez vs. Junior dos Santos Winner

UFC heavyweight contender Fabricio Werdum wants to wait for the winner of champion Cain Velasquez and former titleholder Junior dos Santos . UFC Tonight recently reported the 36-year-old’s desire to wait for a title shot. Werdum (17-5-1) has won his three fights in the UFC since returning to the organization in February 2012, defeating Roy Nelson , Mike Russow and former champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira . The Brazilian also has notable wins over Fedor Emelianenko, Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva and Alistair Overeem . Werdum last competed on June 8, and expects to be back in action in February or March, but has no problems waiting a bit longer for a title shot. Velasquez and dos Santos fight for a third time at UFC 166 on Oct. 19 at the Toyota Center in Houston. They split their two previous meetings

RIO DE JANEIRO – Junior dos Santos was surprised to find out his upcoming opponent, UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez , would not be accompanying him for a promotional trip to Brazil. But the jovial former champ insists he’s not upset. After all, he thinks the mental edge is all his. “For me, I don’t care about the other guys, other people,” dos Santos told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). “They do whatever they want to do. Geronimo dos Santos medically cleared of hep B, still under UFC contract

RIO DE JANEIRO – Geronimo Dos Santos has been medically cleared and is expected to soon return to the UFC. “Mondragon,” who was slated to fight fellow heavyweight Gabriel Gonzaga at UFC 153 in October, ultimately was pulled from the card after a blood test came back positive for hepatitis B. UFC officials declined comment when contacted by MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) but confirmed dos Santos (32-14 MMA, 0-0 UFC) was never released from his contract. Dos Santos, who underwent an aggressive yearlong chemotherapy treatment, now has a viral count of zero, which means he’s essentially been cured of the disease. An initial test came back successful in March, and a second test confirmed the results earlier this month. While medically cleared, dos Santos has some final clerical steps before he can return to competition.

UFC 163 weigh-ins slated for Aug. 2 in Rio; Junior dos Santos hosts Q&A

The same venue hosts the following night’s pay-per-view event, which features a championship headliner between featherweight champion Jose Aldo (22-1 MMA, 4-0 UFC) and challenger Chan Sung Jung (13-3 MMA, 3-0 UFC). The weigh-in festivities kick off at 3 p.m. ET (4 p.m. BRT local time), and as always, you’ll be able to watch a live video stream of the proceedings on the MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) homepage. Tim Boetsch vs. Luke Rockhold Added to UFC 166 Fight Card in Houston

A middleweight bout between former Strikeforce middleweight titleholder Luke Rockhold (10-2) and Tim Boetsch (16-6) has been added to the UFC 166: Velasquez vs. Dos Santos 3 fight card in Houston. UFC officials confirmed the match-up to ESPN.com on Tuesday. Boetsch rose to contender status in the UFC’s 205-pound division in 2012, stringing together a four-fight winning streak that included wins over Yushin Okami and Hector Lombard , but has lost his last two fights. Rockhold made his UFC debut on May 18, losing by knockout to former light heavyweight champion Vitor Belfort . Prior to his promotional debut loss, Rockhold was on an impressive nine-fight winning streak. Both fighters will be looking to rebound from loses in their most recent outings and move back into the title picture. UFC 166 takes place on Oct. 19 at the Toyoto Center in Houston.

He’s currently in the midst of working his way down to 205 pounds, planning to fight one more time at heavyweight before making the drop. UFC president Dana White recently confirmed that Fabricio Werdum asked him to fight Cormier after Werdum defeated Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira in his most recent fight.
