Filed under: Bellator , Featured Videos , News , Videos The matchup for Friday’s Bellator 125 headliner all but promised a high-power slugfest, and middleweight veterans Melvin Manhoef and Doug Marshall clearly obliged. In the bout, which aired on Spike TV from Save Mart Center in Fresno, Calif., Manhoef (29-11-1 MMA, 1-0 BMMA) made a successful promotional debut (and earned himself a title shot ) with a violent first-round knockout of Marshall (18-8 MMA, 4-2 BMMA). Check out the highlights above. The package also includes Rafael Carvalho (10-1 MMA, 1-0 BMMA) scoring an awing comeback win over middleweight Brian Rogers (11-6 MMA, 4-5 BMMA) in the co-headliner. Additionally, Javy Ayala (8-3 MMA, 3-0 BMMA) choked out heavyweight Raphael Butler (8-1-1 MMA, 3-1-1 BMMA), and Goiti Yamauchi (18-2 MMA, 4-1 BMMA) made things look easy against featherweight Martin Stapleton (13-4 MMA, 0-3 BMMA). Melvin Manhoef talks Doug Marshall, getting tricked into fighting Mark Hunt

Newly signed Bellator MMA middleweight Melvin Manhoef has knocked out a few people in his time. There’s one, however, that sticks out in his memory. It happened six years ago in the now-defunct Japanese promotion DREAM, one year before he made his debut in the similarly shuttered Strikeforce, and it was one of those fights that almost didn’t happen. He had just been submitted by Gegard Mousasi in the semifinals of DREAM’s middleweight grand prix, and he wasn’t exactly getting ready for his next fight. “I was eating chocolate cake and (my manager) called me, ‘Hey, do you want to fight Mark Hunt ?’” he told MMAjunkie. Manhoef didn’t even need to put down his cake to do the math on fighting “The Super Samoan.” “I said, ‘Man, that guy is like 140 kilos (300-plus pounds) or something

There have been plenty of opinions about Bellator MMA’s regime change, with Bjorn Rebney sent packing and former Strikeforce head Scott Coker taking over as president. Along with that change came a new mentality for the promotion, which will move away from its tournament format to focus instead on big fights, and more traditional title shots. And that’s where Doug Marshall believes the tide will swing in his favor. Marshall (18-7 MMA, 4-1 BMMA) on Friday meets fellow gunslinger Melvin Manhoef (28-11-1 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) in the main event of Bellator 125, which takes place at Save Mart Center in Fresno, Calif. Bellator 125 lineup complete with eight fights on preliminary card

The lineup for next month’s Bellator 125 event is complete with eight preliminary-card fights in California. Promotion officials recently announced the full lineup for the event, which takes place Sept. 19 at Save Mart Center in Fresno, Calif., with a main card on Spike TV following prelims on Spike.com. The event will be headlined by a middleweight bout between sluggers Melvin Manhoef (28-11-1 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) and Doug Marshall (18-7 MMA, 4-1 BMMA). Doug Marshall was expected to compete in Bellator’s Season 10 middleweight tournament, but he’ll remain on the sidelines. Marshall (18-7 MMA, 4-1 BMMA) was scheduled to fight Dan Cramer (10-4 MMA, 7-2 BMMA) at Bellator 115 next month in the four-man tourney semifinals. But according to Bellator, the Nevada State Athletic Commission chose to extend a suspension handed down to Marshall by the Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission this past fall.

The field is set for Bellator MMA’s Season 10 four-man middleweight tournament, officials today announced. The first semifinal takes place March 28 with Kendall Grove (20-13 MMA, 1-0 BMMA) vs. Brett Cooper (19-9 MMA, 6-4 BMMA) at Bellator 114. The second semifinal takes place a week later, April 4, with Doug Marshall (18-7 MMA, 4-1 BMMA) vs. Dan Cramer (10-4 MMA, 7-2 BMMA) at Bellator 115.

Report: Doug Marshall positive for banned substance, suspended by Pennsylvania commission

Bellator MMA middleweight Doug Marshall (18-7 MMA, 4-1 BMMA) failed a post-fight drug test following a knockout loss to champ Alexander Shlemenko (49-7 MMA, 10-1 BMMA) at this past month’s Bellator 109 , according to a brief from TheMMAReport.com . Marshall tested positive for an undisclosed banned substance and is suspended for an unknown period of time, the head of Pennsylvania’s athletic commission told the website. A source familiar with the administrative action today told MMAjunkie that Marshall is suspended until Feb. 7 and must pay a fine, as well as retake a test, though the type of test is unknown. As with most major state athletic commissions, the Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission tests for performance enhancers and drugs of abuse. PSAC Executive Director Gregory Sirb and Marshall could not be reached for comment.
