2023 PFL Europe 4 took place Friday in Dublin and featured the promotion’s tournament finals for top talent from the region as they vyed for entry into the main series tournament in 2024. Four European champions were crowned, as bantamweight Khushed Kakhorov , lightweight Jakub Kaszuba , flyweight Dakota Ditcheva , and light heavyweight Jakob Nedoh took home titles and $100,000. Kakhorov, Kaszuba, and Nedoh also earned theirselves a spot in the 2024 PFL season. Atop the card, Ireland’s Nathan Kelly sent 3Arena into pandemonium when he submitted Dimitry Solimeis by rear-naked choke at 4:47 of Round 1.

The main card airs on Spike (via same-day tape delay). In the Irish headliner, veteran light heavyweight Muhammed Lawal (19-5 MMA, 8-4 BMMA) returns to heavyweight for a fight with Satoshi Ishii (14-6-1 MMA, 0-1 BMMA). Lawal weighed 213 pounds, and Ishii was 236.6

DUBLIN – John Kavanagh has often been described as the godfather of Irish MMA, a one-man movement that, over the course of a lifetime’s work and against staggering odds, fostered the sport’s evolution in his home country from a sideshow into a tangible outlet for young athletes to earn a living. The reality is a little less grandiose, but not entirely, because the SBG name is now synonymous with combat sports in Ireland and beyond. That said, Kavanagh’s journey is not just an engaging subplot in the larger narrative of the sport in Ireland. And, in fact, it is one of a prominent protagonist who inadvertently undertook a seismic endeavor. Along with men like Andy Ryan and Dave Roche, he midwifed the birth of MMA on the island and has remained at its vanguard. Almost two decades have passed since the Dubliner opened his first gym which, by his own admission, made the average shoebox seem spacious.
