Robert Watley said it himself: To him, a fighter isn’t a true champion until defending their belt. After what he did in the lightweight headliner of tonight’s LFA 27, which aired live on AXS TV from Firelake Arena in Shawnee, Okla., Watley can now proudly call himself a champion. In his first attempt to defend the belt he claimed from Thiago Moises back in June, a strategic Watley (9-1) paid close attention to his corner and left no breathing room for an out-of-options Daryl Wilson (7-2). As Watley’s elbows rained down on Wilson, who’d spent the vast majority of the title bout in the same defensive position, the referee had no choice but to step in at the 4:32 mark of Round 3.

Legacy FC 54 took place at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tulsa in Catoosa, Okla., and aired on AXS TV. In the co-headliners, Brazilian jiu-jitsu ace Rafael Lovato (3-0) scored a TKO win over fellow submission ace Marcelo Nunes (5-1) to claim the vacant middleweight belt , and middleweight Andrew Todhunter (8-0) retired with an undefeated record after posting a first-round submission win over Evan Thompson (5-3). But the key highlight came from welterweight Bilal Williams (5-2), who blitzed Ed Cline (8-6-1) with a knee and forced a stoppage in just 21 seconds

Rafael Lovato Brazilian jiu-jitsu ace Rafael Lovato (3-0) toppled fellow submission ace Marcelo Nunes (5-1), scoring a second round TKO to claim Legacy FC’s vacant middleweight title. The contest served as the main event of Friday’s Legacy FC 54 event, which took place at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tulsa in Catoosa, Okla. The night’s main card aired on AXS TV. Lovato opened the fight with a flurry of kicks, allowing Nunes to take the action to the floor. However, Lovato calmly worked himself back to the feet and eventually reversed the position with a takedown of his own. The two continued to battle back and forth for position with some high-level grappling exchanges.

Bilal Williams (4-2) landed a big head kick in the first round against Canaan Grigsby (4-3), drilling his nose with his shin bone, leaving it badly disfigured. Somehow, Grigsby pushed on, and despite the fight being a bloodbath, he made it to the end. In the main event, J.C. Cottrell (16-3) had to survive a guillotine choke from Ed Cline early in their fight.
