Ed Herman books 25th UFC fight, faces Zak Cummings in Kansas City

The longest-tenured fighter on the UFC roster is set for his 25th fight under the promotion’s banner. “Short Fuse” Ed Herman (24-15 MMA, 13-11 UFC) hasn’t competed since August 2021, but at the promotion’s upcoming UFC Fight Night card April 15 in Kansas City, Mo., he’ll make his return to the cage against Zak Cummings (24-7 MMA, 9-4 UFC) in a light heavyweight bout. Both fighters announced the bout Wednesday on their social media pages. A light heavyweight matchup featuring a pair of incredibly experienced veterans is on tap for Feb. 12. MMA Junkie recently learned from two people with knowledge of the booking that Maxim Grishin and Ed Herman have verbally agreed to face off at the event, which is expected to serve as UFC 271 . Those people requested anonymity because the organization has yet to make a formal announcement. Contracts are expected to be finalized shortly for the contest, with the location yet to be announced. Grishin (31-9-2 MMA, 1-2 UFC) fought most recently in February suffering a decision loss to Dustin Jacoby.

When Clay Guida stepped into the cage at UFC on ESPN 29 this past Saturday, he did so as the third-longest-tenured (continuously so) fighter on the promotion’s roster. The majority of UFC fighters don’t last a decade under the promotion’s banner. It’s a difficult feat, but a handful of athletes on the roster have done that. In fact, some are even nearing the 15-year mark.

A light heavyweight matchup is the latest addition to UFC 265. Alonzo Menifield (10-2 MMA, 3-2 UFC) will take on Ed Herman (26-14 MMA, 13-10 UFC) on Aug. 7 at a location and venue that has yet to be announced. Two people with knowledge of the matchup informed MMA Junkie of the booking Friday, but asked to remain anonymous since the promotion has yet to make an official announcement. Menifield, a Dana White’s Contender Series graduate, snapped a two-fight skid with a first-round submission of Fabio Cherant in March.

Kennedy Nzechukwu replaces Ed Herman, meets Danilo Marques at UFC Fight Night 190

Danilo Marques has lost his original opponent, but remains on UFC Fight Night 190 and takes on a new foe. Fortis MMA product Kennedy Nzechukwu replaces Ed Herman against Marques (11-2 MMA, 2-0 UFC) on the June 26 card, which takes place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Two people with knowledge of the matchup informed MMA Junkie of the change but asked to remain anonymous since the promotion has yet to make an official announcement. After a loss to Paul Craig in his promotional debut, Nzechukwu (8-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) rebounded with back-to-back wins. Following a unanimous decision over Darko Stosic, Nzechukwu earned UFC 259 “Fight of the Night” honors for his back-and-forth battle against Carlos Ulberg, which he won by second-round knockout in March. Marques, 35, rides a four-fight winning streak into the bout – with two victorious performances in the UFC

NAC rejects Mike Rodriguez’s appeal of UFC loss, but Tyson Chartier still pushes for hearing

UNCASVILLE, Conn. – Manager-coach Tyson Chartier won’t give up in his fight to overturn Mike Rodriguez ’s controversial loss to Ed Herman . Rodriguez (11-5 MMA, 2-3 UFC) was on the wrong end of an error from referee Chris Tognoni in the light heavyweight bout at UFC on ESPN+ 35 in September, which Herman won by third-round submission. In the second round, Rodriguez dropped Herman with a knee to the midsection, but the referee misidentified it as a low blow . Herman was given the usual five-minute recovery window for a groin strike, but the replay showed the shot clearly missed his groin. Tognoni declined to consult a replay, and the fight was allowed to resume after the controversial incident.
