Poineering Brazilian women’s MMA competitor Ediane Gomes has competed with everyone from Ronda Rousey to Amanda Nunes over the years. She hasn’t fought since 2017, but that doesn’t mean things have been uneventful, so it seemed like a good time to catch up with the Invicta standout. Here’s a transcript of MMA Junkie’s recent conversation with Gomes: You’re best known to MMA fans from your man vs woman bout, as well as facing notable opponents such as Amanda Nunes, Ronda Rousey, Leslie Smith, and Hiroko Yamanaka. LAS VEGAS – The newest season of “The Ultimate Fighter” is poised to help the UFC finally build a women’s featherweight roster, and current champion Cris Cyborg was on hand for the open tryouts to personally welcome the crop of hopefuls. A total of 28 women’s featherweights were on hand at Tuesday’s “The Ultimate Fighter 28” open tryouts at Las Vegas’ Palace Station Hotel & Casino, with each fighter hoping to land a spot on the show and, ultimately, a UFC contract. Additionally, 53 male heavyweight hopefuls were on hand for that division’s proceedings, as well

Invicta FC 23’s Ediane Gomes has experienced remarkable moments throughout her fighting career, but she laments one aspect of it. Gomes is undeniably a success story , having overcome drug addiction and homelessness in route to a mostly victorious, almost decade-long professional MMA run. Make no mistake: Gomes is thankful for what she has. But, for all she has managed to accomplish, the Brazilian fighter wishes she’d had more opportunities to perform. “I wish I had done more up to this point,” Gomes told MMAjunkie.

Next month’s Invicta FC 23 event continues to grow with the addition of two more fights. Officials recently announced a featherweight bout for the card between Ediane Gomes (10-4) and Pam Sorenson (5-1), as well as a bantamweight bout between Shaianna Rincon (0-0) and Brooksie Bayard (1-1). Invicta FC 23 takes place May 20 at Scottish Rite Temple in Kansas City, Mo., and the entire event streams on UFC Fight Pass

Filed under: News , Videos A little more than a half day after weighing in at 144.6 pounds for tonight’s Invicta FC 15 event, featherweight champion Cristiane Justino has rehydrated and gained 19.2 pounds. “Cyborg” recently posted a video showing her weighing 163.8 pounds, roughly 13 percent of her weight on Friday (via Instagram ). Justino (14-1) meets Russian submission specialist Daria Ibragimova (9-1) in tonight’s UFC Fight Pass-streamed main event, which takes place at The Hangar at OC Fair and Event Center in Costa Mesa, Calif. The champ is a massive 22-1 favorite .

The veteran fighter opened a GoFundMe account to cover costs she needs to pay in order to be licensed for her next bout, a meeting with Amanda Bell (3-3) at Saturday’s Invicta FC 15, which takes place at The Hangar at OC Fair and Event Center in Costa Mesa, Calif. The event streams live on UFC Fight Pass. “I’ve fought in California once before, against Ronda Rousey,” Gomes (10-4) said in an interview with MMAjunkie.

Paige VanZant and Felice Herrig Proving her critics wrong again, Paige VanZant earned her second octagon victory in impressive fashion on Saturday night at UFC on FOX 15 in Newark, N.J. Competing in her most high-profile bout to date, the 21-year-old Reebok-sponsored fighter easily defeated veteran contender Felice Herrig in a featured strawweight bout on the FOX-televised main card. Leading into Saturday’s fight, some predicted that the hype surrounding VanZant (5-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) would come to an abrupt halt with a loss to Herrig (10-6 MMA, 1-1 UFC), who has been competing professionally in MMA for more than six years. Instead, just as she did in her November UFC debut, VanZant silenced doubters with another commanding victory. Herrig’s best success came in Round 1 when she threatened with a rear-naked choke after reversing a takedown. However, VanZant has proven to be highly adept at escaping from submissions throughout her young career, and Saturday was no different.

Invicta FC 12 card finalized, tickets on sale

Ediane Gomes The full card for Invicta FC 12 has been finalized with a total of 10 fights announced for the April 24 event. Invicta FC 12 takes place at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo. The event streams live in its entirety on UFC Fight Pass. Tickets are currently on sale for the event, headlined by a strawweight title fight between champion Katja Kankaanpaa (10-1-1) and challenger Livia Renata Souza (7-0). Ticket prices for the card are $150, $75, $50 and $35 at Ticketmaster.com, all Ticketmaster locations, and the Municipal Auditorium box office. Some of the featured newly announced bouts for the finalized card include a bantamweight battle between Ediane Gomes (10-3) and Raquel Pa’aluhi (4-4), Jenny Liou (3-1) looking for her fourth win in five career fights when she faces Lacey Schuckman (10-8) in a strawweight fight and a pair of atomweights who have turned their careers around after both losing their first three pro bouts in Cassie Rodish (5-4) and Stephanie Skinner (4-5).
