LFA 1 results: Leandro Higo wins inaugural 135 title against gritty, won’t-go-away Steven Peterson

Leandro Higo had to survive a scary moment against Steven Peterson late in the first round. And though he may have thought he was on his way to an easy LFA inaugural bantamweight title win, he had to put in some work to get the belt. Higo (17-2) busted Peterson (14-5) up on the feet in the first round and bloodied him up – but then went for a takedown seemingly out of nowhere. Peterson took advantage and caught him in a guillotine choke that looked tight. But Higo stayed patient, worked out of it, got to the second round, then went back to work. And though he did solid work each round the rest of the way, Peterson never quite went away in Higo’s unanimous decision sweep.

LFA 1′s Eli Tamez is the hairdresser who loves ‘breaking people’ inside a cage

Eli Tamez is one of countless fighters who works multiple jobs. He gets to enjoy a luxury most others don’t, though, in that MMA is secondary to his career as a hairdresser, and he’s happy to keep it that way. Tamez, who fights Friday at LFA 1, is as dedicated to the sport as any of his peers, but it’s not his only focus, he said. He’s been cutting hair since well before he threw his first punch, and regardless of how successful he becomes as a fighter, he said he won’t leave his greatest passion. “I started cutting hair when I was in seventh grade,” Tamez told MMAjunkie.

Undefeated bantamweight prospect Eli Tamez didn’t grow up fighting. But once he started, he found out he was a bit of a natural. “I actually had some friends that just trained in the garage, and they all fought as amateurs,” Tamez told MMAjunkie. “I started training with them, and I started getting good. “I trained for like three months, and one of the guys was like, ‘Let’s find you a fight.’ I was like, ‘Yeah, that would be cool – be a fighter and tell everybody that I fight.’ Then I went out and won by knockout in like a minute and 40 seconds, and I was just hooked after that.” He did, however, grow up cutting hair. “I started cutting hair when I was 13,” Tamez said.

Derek Campos (15-5 MMA, 4-3 BMMA) will meet Brandon Girtz (13-4 MMA, 5-2 BMMA) in a 155-pound bout on the main card of Bellator 146, promotion officials recently announced. Bellator 146 takes place Nov.

Legacy FC 38 results: Dave Burrow shocks Anthony Njokuani with third-round armbar

Dave Burrow Anthony Njokuani into the main event of Legacy FC 38 – at the Allen Event Center in Allen, Texas – looking to get his career back on track in his first fight since being released from the UFC. But things did not work out the way he was hoping, as he was submitted in the third round of a fight he’d been controlling from the opening bell. In Dave Burrow , Njokuani (16-10) faced a fighter who was coming into the fight on two weeks notice, but was known to be very dangerous on the ground. Despite his ground game, Burrow (12-5) came out ready to trade strikes, working some punches as well as kicks to the leg and body before an accidental poke to Njokuani’s eye led to a brief stoppage. Njokuani came out of the foul break and began to let fly with very quick punches and kicks that put his speed advantage on display. With Burrow not looking for a takedown, Njokuani was able to get loose with thudding leg kicks before Burrow landed a second accidental eye poke

Legacy FC 38 card set with addition of nine pro bouts behind Njokuani-Gifford

Jason Sampson After announcing UFC veteran Anthony Njokuani as the headliner for Legacy FC 38, the February card now is complete with the addition of nine more pro bouts. Njokuani (15-9) meets Thomas Gifford (9-6) in the main event, and a bantamweight bout between Jason Sampson (11-1) and Joseph Sandoval (7-4) has joined the card in the co-feature spot. Legacy FC promoter and owner Mick Maynard today confirmed the bout, and eight others, to MMAjunkie.

‘Legacy FC 33: Garcia vs. Jackson’ nears completion of six-fight main card

Legacy FC’s second summer event is nearly complete with a six-fight main card planned for an event headlined by a featherweight title bout between UFC vet and current champ Leonard Garcia and challenger Damon Jackson. Today, promotional officials announced five additional main-card bouts for Legacy Fights 33, which takes place July 18 at Allen Event Center in Allen, Texas. The event’s main card airs live on AXS TV.
