Five fighters are no longer on the UFC roster, including a former bantamweight contender. Multiple people with knowledge of the releases recently informed MMA Junkie of the roster moves but asked to remain anonymous since the promotion hasn’t made an official announcement. The roster changes came to light after the fighters were moved to the “former fighters” section of the UFC’s website ( h/t UFC Roster Watch ). Check out the recent UFC departures below

Hannah Goldy finally got her first octagon victory Saturday at UFC Fight Night 192 . Goldy (6-2 MMA, 1-2 UFC) opened the event from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas by catching Emily Whitmire (4-5 MMA, 2-4 UFC) in an armbar in the opening round of their women’s flyweight fight. From bottom position, Goldy locked up an armbar on Whitmire that caused a verbal submission.

Scheduled to take on Emily Whitmire in a strawweight fight at UFC Fight Night , Cifers (10-7 MMA, 2-5 UFC) has pulled out for an undisclosed reason. Two people with knowledge of the change recently informed MMA Junkie of the withdrawal but asked to remain anonymous since the promotion has yet to make an official announcement.

Polyana Viana potentially saved her spot on the UFC roster Saturday with a much-needed win over Emily Whitmire at UFC on ESPN+ 33. Viana (11-4 MMA, 2-3 UFC) carried a three-fight losing skid into her matchup with Whitmire (4-4 MMA, 2-3 UFC) at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Her back was against the wall, but then she rose to the occasion in thrilling fashion. The Brazilian found an opportunity to lock up an armbar on Whitmire from bottom position early in the fight and finished the job in less than two minutes. With the worldwide COVID-19 epidemic in full effect, fighters and fight fans alike find themselves in the same boat as everyone else when it comes to finding their next source of entertainment and income. Sports across the globe have pretty much come to a halt, and though MMA may be a sport that can return to business faster than others, the fact still remains that our new realities currently involve factors like social distancing and self quarantines. Now, I don’t want to make light of the pandemic at hand or overly sensationalize the current climate, since I’m sure we’ll all come through this as better human beings. However, in case things get worse – hypothetically – I thought it would be a fun exercise to construct a fantasy team of seven fighters who you’d want by your side in the event of an all-out apocalypse.
