Filed under: AXS TV Fights , News A lukewarm LFA 15 headlining affair got an eye-popping finish thanks to newly-crowned heavyweight champ Richard Odoms . After almost an entire five rounds spent mostly in clinches against the fence, Odoms (13-3) managed to grab hold of Jared Vanderaa ’s (5-1) right arm and quickly twist it into a kimura hold that forced him to tap at the 2:45 mark of the final round of the title headliner. The 42-year-old Odoms became LFA’s first heavyweight champion, while Vanderaa, 17 years his junior, suffered the first loss of his career after finishing his first five opponents. LFA 15 took place at FireLake Arena in Shawnee, Oklahoma.

The inaugural LFA heavyweight title will be on the line on June 30. Officials today announced the first fights for the card, which airs on AXS TV from FireLake Arena in Shawnee, Okla. In the headliner, Richard Odoms (12-3) or Jared Vanderaa (5-0) will become the organization’s first heavyweight titleholder. Odoms, a 42-year-old San Antonio police officer, recently made his LFA debut and scored a TKO victory over Willian Hoffmann. He’s now on a 4-1 run that includes three knockout victories. He takes on Vanderaa, a 25-year-old highly touted Californian who turned pro in 2015

Bellator 174 resulted in the addition of a new champion and the loss of a pioneer of women’s MMA. Julia Budd dominated Marloes Coenen for three rounds before finally finishing her in the fourth and winning the inaugural Bellator women’s featherweight title by TKO. “It’s been a long road,” Budd said. “I don’t think anyone thought it would get to this.” Coenen (23-8, 2-2 BMMA), the former Strikeforce women’s bantamweight champion, announced her retirement in her post-fight interview after nearly 17 years as a professional mixed martial artist. Budd (10-2, 4-0 BMMA) opened the first round with a nice takedown, but it was Coenen who looked more comfortable on the ground.
