Erik Silva ’s attempt to redeem himself after a failed promotional debut quickly turned into a nightmare during the UFC Fight Night 237 card opener Saturday in Mexico City. The bout only lasted 44 seconds as Silva (9-3 MMA, 0-2 UFC) suffered an apparent left leg injury as he stepped backward during his featherweight prelim against Muhammad Naimov (11-2 MMA, 3-0 UFC). A replay appeared to show an abnormal shift in the knee area. Silva clinched Naimov initially, but eventually fell to the canvas and covered up as Naimov threw a couple punches

The final UFC pay-per-view of the calendar year continues to grow with a new featherweight bout. TJ Brown (16-9 MMA, 2-3 UFC) is set to take on the newly signed Erik Silva (9-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) at UFC 282, according to ESPN Deportes, part of the UFC’s broadcast partnership. UFC 282 takes place Dec. 10 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS – Erik Silva used his slick ground game once again to take out his opponent early. Silva (9-1) was able to immediately take Anvar Boynazarov down and pound him out for the first round finish at Dana White’s Contender Series 49 on Tuesday to earn a UFC contract. The Venezuelan fighter’s grappling was in full effect in his eighth straight win, but he says that’s not his only forte. “Whenever they call me, (I’m ready to fight again),” Silva told reporters, including MMA Junkie, at the post-fight news conference. “As you can see, I didn’t come out with any sort of injuries or anything of the sort
