In a champion-vs.-champion fight at the top of the Rizin 16 card, Ayaka Hamasaki topped Jinh Yu Frey for a second time. Hamasaki (18-2), Rizin’s champion at super atomweight (108 pounds), took a unanimous decision from Frey (8-4), who is Invicta FC’s atomweight champ. The bout was the MMA main event at World Memorial Hall in Kobe, Japan. Hamasaki ran her winning streak to four fights, all under the Rizin banner. She first fought Frey in 2016 at Invicta FC 16 and won with a second-round TKO when doctors stopped the fight due to a cut. Frey had her two-fight winning streak snapped with the loss, though her Invicta title wasn’t on the line.

Earlier in the day, Floyd Mayweather called his exhibition boxing bout with Tenshin Nasukawa a “ 9 minute walk thru .” As it turned out, he needed less than three. The 41-year-old Mayweather knocked down the 20-year-old Nasukawa three times in the opening round of their contest, which capped off today’s Rizin FF 14 at Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan. Mayweather showed little respect for his opponent at the start, miming real punches while waiting to see what Nasukawa could offer. With a smile on his face, Mayweather came forward and landed a pair of body shots that sent Nasukawa to the canvas for an early takedown. Nasukawa crawled back to his feet, struggling to mask the pain he obviously felt.

The shining star from the Rizin FF women’s super atomweight grand prix opening round was Rena Kubota , who picked up a first-round knockout of Andy Nguyen in the main event of today’s Rizin FF 7 event. Kubota’s (5-0) striking was on point in the tournament bout with Nguyen (5-5), which headlined the FITE TV-streamed card at Marine Messe Fukuoka in Fukuoka, Japan. She put in early body work against her opponent and capped it off with a left hook to the liver for the knockout at the 3:23 mark of Round 1. Nguyen didn’t appear to be overwhelmed by the moment against the highly touted 26-year-old Kubota
