UFC 163 main card adds Leites-Watson, McCall-Santos replaces Clopton-Yahya on FX

A middleweight contest between Thales Leites and Tom Watson has been promoted to main-card status at next month’s UFC 163 event. The promotion came following the loss of a planned Josh Koscheck vs. Demian Maia bout, which was recently removed from the evening’s lineup. Additionally, the night’s preliminary bouts have undergone a slight shuffle, as a flyweight matchup of Ian McCall vs. Iliarde Santos was promoted to the evening’s FX broadcast in favor of a featherweight contest of Josh Clopton vs. Rany Yahya, which now streams on Facebook

Bellator "Summer Series" features two events instead of typical three

Instead of three events during its annual “Summer Series,” Bellator MMA this year will host just two. Sources close to the promotion confirmed that plan to MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) not long after its first event of the summer, Bellator 96, which took place this past Wednesday at WinStar World Casino in Thackerville, Okla. Bellator 97 takes place July 31 at Santa Ana Star Center in Rio Rancho, N.M., near Albuquerque, but there will not be an August event. Instead, the promotion simply will roll into the start of its ninth season, which opens Sept.

Bellator Season 9 debuts Sept. 7 before move to Friday nights

Bellator MMA once again will have a new weekly home, this time on Fridays. Bellator officials on Tuesday confirmed to MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that the promotion will debut on a Saturday before moving to Friday nights the following week. Loretta Hunt of SI.com first reported the news after speaking to Spike TV President Kevin Kay. Bellator’s Season 9 debut is set for Saturday Sept. 7 on Spike TV, a card that serves as the promotion’s live season finale for the “Fight Master” reality show/competition. That show debuts June 19 on Spike TV. But after that event, likely Bellator 99, the promotion will move to Friday nights from 9-11 p.m.
