UFC Fight Night 26 main eventer Chael Sonnen , heading into his bout with Mauricio “Shogun” Rua Saturday night in Boston, expects that he is in for a long and grueling night. Likewise, Alistair Overeem has been putting in a long and grueling training camp, focusing on getting better so that he can topple Travis Browne on Saturday night in Beantown, putting himself back on track for a UFC title shot. UFC Fight Night 26 main eventer Chael Sonnen has yet to be granted a fight license for the Aug. 17 event, which serves as prime time launch programming for the new Fox Sports 1 network. Sonnen is slated to face Mauricio “Shogun” Rua in a five-round lightweight bout to top the fight card. The Massachusetts State Athletic Commission has, however, preliminarily agreed to allow Sonnen to fight. The debate swirling around Sonnen stems from his testosterone replacement therapy regimen, and the MSAC’s lack of experience dealing with the issue

Heading into UFC on Fox 8 on Saturday night in Seattle, the co-main event between Rory MacDonald and Jake Ellenberger stole the spotlight, but when it came time for the post-fight awards and bonuses, they were nowhere to be seen. UFC president Dana White handed out $50,000 bonuses to the award winners, and while main eventer UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson was overshadowed in the lead-up, he walked away with the Submission of the Night bonus following an impressive five-round performance. Johnson dominated John Moraga for the majority of their fight, but once Moraga landed a stunner in the fourth round, causing Johnson’s nose to bleed, that’s when the champion stepped it up a notch. He quickly took Moraga to the mat in the final frame and diligently worked on him until he secured an armbar finish. Melvin Guillard talked about the importance of his fight at UFC on Fox 8, characterizing it as a job-saving performance when he knocked Mac Danzig out midway through their bout. Not only was the fight “job saving,” but it was also enriching, as Guillard earned the $50,000 Knockout of the Night bonus. The Fight of the Night honors went to Ed Herman and Trevor Smith , who fought on the FX televised prelim portion of the fight card. Both men are heavy hitters, and both men were hitting heavy on Saturday night, but neither could finish the other

UFC on FOX 8 main-eventer and flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson holds the dubious honor of being the only current champ to never have headlined a pay-per-view event. But that could change soon, according to UFC President Dana White. “[Johnson] has been on a lot of big cards,” White told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). “He’s going to fight on FOX again, and we’re in the building phase of that division. So the answer is yes.” The 125-pound division made its debut in March 2012 with an unofficial four-man tournament to crown the UFC’s inaugural flyweight champ. Although delayed by a botched score early on in the competition, Johnson won the title this past September with a split call over Joseph Benavidez and in January defended the belt with a unanimous score over John Dodson

Despite Report to the Contrary, UFC on Fox Sports 1: Shogun vs. Sonnen Not in Jeopardy

Despite a report to the contrary, the UFC on Fox Sports 1: Shogun vs. Sonnen fight card is not in jeopardy. The fight card is slated of Aug. 17 in Boston, and is also supposed to serve as part of the launch-day programming for the new Fox Sports One nationwide sports network. The Boston Herald , however, reported on Tuesday that there are concerns over the participation of foreign-born fighters, such as main eventer Mauricio “Shogun” Rua . There is a Massachusetts state law requiring all mixed martial arts competitors to have a Social Security number, including foreign-born fighters
