RIO DE JANEIRO – If Glover Teixeira (21-2 MMA, 4-0 UFC) plays his cards right, his next fight may earn him a shot at the UFC’s light heavyweight title. UFC exec Marshall Zelaznik revealed at Saturday night’s post-UFC 163 press conference in Rio de Janeiro that UFC President Dana White and matchmaker Joe Silva told him an impressive win by Teixeira in his upcoming bout with Ryan Bader (15-3 MMA, 8-3 UFC) could earn him a crack at the belt. “Dana and Joe have confirmed with a strong victory by Glover that he probably gets the winner of the Jon Jones fight,” Zelaznik said. Teixeira and Bader meet in the headlining bout of next month’s UFC Fight Night 28 event, which takes place Sept. 4 at Estadio Jornalista Felipe Drumond in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil

After talk of return, Dana White says Nick Diaz remains retired

SEATTLE – So it turns out Nick Diaz won’t be returning to the UFC after all – at least not right now. Less than a month after the onetime UFC title challenger reportedly asked for a fight , UFC President Dana White said not so fast – he is still retired. And recent talk from Diaz trainer Cesar Gracie of a possible bout offer was also apparently not as serious as it seemed, according to the UFC exec. “There was no miscommunication; it was Cesar,” White told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com).

Jens Pulver vs. Sami Aziz headlines November’s Superior Challenge 9 in Sweden

MMA legend Jen Pulver (27-18-1) returns to action in November, when he meets Swedish veteran Sami Aziz (5-3-1) in the headlining bout of Superior Challenge 9. Superior Challenge officials recently announced the booking, which takes place Nov. 23 in Aziz’s hometown of Gothenburg, Sweden. The contest serves as Aziz’s retirement bout. “Both of these guys have hands like sledgehammers, so it will probably be an explosion when they meet,” Superior Challenge exec Babak Aghavali stated
