Japanese featherweight star Mikuru Asakura produced a crowd-pleasing finish to defeat Mexico’s Daniel Salas in their 150-pound bout at Rizin FF 21 in Shizuoka, Japan, then received an unexpected callout from a former champion. Salas mixed up his strikes well in the opening round and looked to use his jab and reach to work from range, but was countered with stiff, crisp southpaw shots from Asakura, whose punches looked much more solid than those of the Mexican. That power advantage was evident in the final seconds of the round when Asakura first connected with a head kick, then landed a powerful right hand that briefly stunned Salas.

Rizin FF 21 features Japanese contender Mikuru Asakura (12-1), who takes on Mexican Daniel Salas (16-6-1) in a 150-pound main event clash, while American bantamweight Victor Henry (19-4) looks to extend his impressive win streak to seven with victory over Japanese veteran Masanori Kanehara (27-13-5). There’s also heavyweight action at the top end of the card, with Guam’s Roque Martinez (14-5-2) lining up against hulking Japanese judoka Hideki Sekine (7-3).

Japan’s Rizin FF kicks off its 2020 schedule on Feb. 22, and a few UFC veterans will be making their promotional debut. Promotional officials recently announced that Rizin FF 21 takes place on that date at Hamamatsu Arena in Hamamatsu, Japan. Seven MMA bouts have been added to the lineup thus far, including three-time UFC veteran and former Sengoku featherweight champion Masanori Kanehara (27-13-5), who takes on Victor Henry , as well as two-time UFC vet Naoki Inoue (12-2), who meets fellow bantamweight Trent Girdham (12-3)

In the co-headliner, Fabian Edwards (7-0 MMA, 2-0 BMMA) used an up-kick to signal the end of his fight with Falco Neto (11-10 MMA, 0-1 BMMA), winning by first-round TKO. Bellator Europe’s sophomore effort continues to fill out, and a highly touted prospect now has an opponent, while a Bellator Kickboxing champ will try his hand at MMA for the first time in more than a decade. Bellator officials today announced that undefeated middleweight Fabian Edwards (6-0 MMA, 2-0 BMMA) will face Portuguese newcomer Falco Neto (11-9 MMA, 0-0 BMMA), while Bellator Kickboxing welterweight title holder Raymond Daniels (0-1 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) will make his Bellator MMA debut against Jon Durrant (0-0 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) at Bellator Europe 2, which takes place May 4 at Resorts World Arena in Birmingham, England.
